Looking good smudger
Fitted everything back up. Everything was ready to go so battery was connected up. The moment of truth had arrived, turned the key and nothing. NO fuel pump prime.
Ok I thought no problems I know why this is. I haven't reconnected the 4 connectors that go into the steering column for ignition, lights etc.
Keys out, took the thinnest of the connectors and plugged it in. As soon as I did I heard a loud hissing followed by massive plumes of smoke. Cue Nosmonkey running to the boot to unplug the battery quick sharpish whilst I wrestle the plug out.
Then it was time to stop filling my pants and wait for the heart rate to settle.
Inspection time…..without taking the clocks out which I haven't done yet it's impossible to report on the full extent of the damage but it's taken all the wires from the part of the loom and others where it joins the rest of the loom behind the clocks. Gutted isn't really the word. What could have caused this? A bad earth? I just can't work out in my head why this has happened. It's part of the original mk1 stalk loom and hasn't been touched in any way except for me unplugging it all when I fitted the hydraulic conversion and new steering wheel Gutted

I made that mistake on one of my 944's before when I changed the wheel - mixed the live and earth up. I reconnected the battery, came out of the boot to go back and test the car and found it full of white smoke and a melted loom!

Having had a look at it today it looks like I am going to need most of the interior loom so if anyone has one please let me know. I am going to be looking again over the coming days to see if there's anything obvious that has caused it otherwise it'll be loom out and replacement in I think at this stage. Knowing my luck in the past I am preparing for worst case scenario
I think if nothing obvious rears it's ugly head it'll be a call out for a mobile auto electrician to come and fault find before repair as I don't want this happening again

Not been on here much recently due to work and working really hard for a promotion which I was successful in achieving. have started in my new role and am really enjoying it. Shifts are a little better so maybe more time for the MK1.
TBH I fell out of love with the car over the winter months and it has just sat in the car port gathering dust since the interior loom went up in September.
Since then I have sourced a replacement interior loom and discovered that the cause was the steering wheel and the earthing to it so have fitted the new loom into the car which has re-ignited the love and I am back on it so to speak
I have also acquired a KO4 hybrid Frankenturbo and forged rods from peterg60 which I just had to have of course and me Nosmonkey are in the process of fitting. Won't be ready this summer as I have left it too long over the winter months but apart from turbo and fitting new pistons it's there I think. I'll try and get some pics up along with updates over the coming weeks.

When I started my build, this was an amazingly inspirational thread, so hope you get the car finished.
