Doghouse mk1...

Had my eye on this for quite a while, the seller on here, hysteric, I can't thank him for how honest and particular he was about the car as I was driving 3hrs just to view it!

Set off down one sat afternoon and after a 30 min drive with Vimal, I was having it! It's an '80 originally black 1.6, and will eventually be back at that stage.

As its sits its white, 16v on twin 45's, how I picked it up…

Gave it a 300 mile wash

Lhd wiper arms need swapping :)

First mod was the big bumpers (will buy new ones when I can, these were in my unit)

Firstly, will be exterior back to gti spec, list for now, arches, sill trim and rhd wiper arms.

Then I will be sourcing a 1.6 engine for a rebuild over time and sorting the interior out as its semi complete at the moment.

I move house next week (hence the dog house) It wasn't wise buying it at such short period but I had to have it!

And of course, the 16vt build is still under way, this will likely have engine swap and a rebuild after the green one is done :)

Looking good. I'm hunting for small bumpers and you're taking them off. I might also end up going with the bigger bumpers for now. The little car seems to be in a  great condition.

Not sure weather to powder coat these black and mix it up bumper wise as in essence they've cost me nothing to date.

Thats such a nice early GTI, and the ride height is just spot on.  Maybe its just me, but I really like the early alloys.

any mods (wheels and suspension) will be fully reversible, but 100% cannot see this being for sale anytime soon, so im not fussed about if i mod it.

must be mad, alraedy thinking once my green one is done this will get a rebuild along with the 1.6 back in…
