Promised i wasn't going to make a 'build' thread for this car but…..
while browsing various forums i saw a mk1 swallow tail for sale, unfinished or incomplete, the car had been painted in 2005 and stayed in the bodyshop it was never put back together and various parts had gone missing along the way
i messaged the seller asking if he could tell me more about it and what was there or not, he was unsure on what exactly was missing but from what i could see there were a good few parts missing including;
bumpers
80% of interior, seats, carpets, cards etc
radiator
parts of the engine
fuel pump
complete exhaust
hoses / pipes
Well we negotiated a price and i sent hime the money based on a fair few photos of the body and rust prone areas. After a faff with the bank, money was transfered and i arranged my mate to collect it on his truck.
He got back from northampton about 3.30 this afternoon
rolled it into my mates lockup anf began rummaging through the bags of bits and bobs
it wasn't long before the goodies started being unearthed
service history confirms mileage as 34000

Thanks chaps, i've looked and can't find any rust, squashed sills or bad panels
Oh it's also got brand new weitec shocks and springs and gti front brakes.
The suspension and wheels and duplicate parts will be sold when the time comes

Any idea where i can get chrome side trims from?
Also unsure if i should run the centre console or poverty spec gear lever surround, the car came poverty spec so tempted to stay with that…

iirc this was advertised as a 1981 car. not sure how it's a swallowtail. Maybe just has the small light rear panel welded on?

Let me know what a fair price is, it has paint flake around the knob (pictured above)
If you could let me know a fair price for the gti console with the gauges in too as got a few people asking

Surely the full service book, dash original trim means it's a swallowtail?

if the line below numberplate dips down like this:
http://www.reid.org/~dreid/Swallowtail/Features/WhatIsSwallowtail/swallowtail_arrows.jpg
then its a swallow tail
if its 1 straight line then its a series 1
