A friend of a friend asked if i fancy swapping my mk3 colour concept for this, after checking how much welding needed doing for its next MOT i agreed, after getting it passed the MOT with a huge welding session,
Its a 1982 1.3 CL 4our door in gambia red
102k on the clock with not even a week of MOT and the only paperwork being the V5.
Bit of a gamble i know, he lad who owned it had no mechanical knowledge or interest and all the work that had been done on it was by a fellow dubber and also riding buddy
So, it arrived with original steel wheels and a box full of bits he decided to remove, sun visors, 1 parcel shelf support and other odd stuff,
This is as he stood after severel washes and polishes, needs loads more to bring the colour out, a thorough hoovering and emptying the swimming pool i found in the rear drivers side footwell
Ive had the original pierberg solex 34 carb completely stripped down, cleaned and rebuilt with all new gaskets, jets, O rings and springs so hopefully thatll improve the running and mpg
I also uprated the front brakes with GTI ones, cheers to Winston, fully rebled with new fluid and adjusted up the rear drums
The coilovers on it are a mix of dogshit JOM/hottuning fronts and Kw V1s on the back, decisions now are to either buy just kw fronts, 400 quid just for the fronts! Or sell them on as a odd set and buy a decent set of FKs??
Managed to get a G40 manifold and down pipe cheap of off the Egay so thats going on soon matched up to the full SS system already on, probably with a quieter rear box too
Next up was wheel choice…… .. P slots, Tarantulas, Bbs reps?
Decided to keep it looking kinda standardish but slightly modded so git the original steels banded up
13x5 all round turned into 13x6 fronts and 13x7 rears, probably mess around with 5mm spacers here and there
7's 6's and 5's, proper pain to band what with the face being prouder than the rim
Next up was colour and tyre size, didnt want stupid stretch, and needed some cushioning from the road so opted for 175/50/13 nankang as-1's all round, after all it is only a 1.3, slight stretch at the rear, nice and square upon the fronts
Colour ended up being Triumph Tr7 champagne gold, and im a bit chuffed
And this is the first fit before sorting out the height on level ground
Other than fitting a five speed gear box last weekemd, thats me so far,
Huge service to be done, a pal is custom building me some door pods/speaker pods and centre console out of mahogany and a decent but compact audio system in and it will be ready for alltypes
Cheers for taking the time to read this lot so far
