Budget build of my first project

Hello all, I would like to document the project build of my volkswagen fox on this forum, and although I know that its not a mk1 golf, it uses the same spares as a mk1 golf from the front to the rear door, so I hope you guys don't mind me putting my build thread up here

First of all this is the first car that I am building so its zero experience on my side and going to need all you guys help on this project

It will be very slow progress due to time and money, but there will be regular progress from my side and will put up pics as much as I can

About the car, its a 1988 Volkswagen Fox 1.6 with and HM block, the body has been painted previously but I will need to paint it again in the future as it has lots of scratches and chips

The car for now is just a body with suspension and some interior, no engine or gearbox, so its missing a lot of parts and will take time to source these parts

Here are some pics to start with, please note pics taken on a rainy day with my mobile phone so they are not the best, also car is dirty and needs a wash, so please excuse the condition

First up is a pic of the car the first day I brought it home, towed it with a rope with my Polo from about 1km away from my house

Next up, some pics taken of the car today, first pic of the left front view of the car

Right front view of the car

Front view of the car

Left back view of the car

View of rear wheel stance

View of front wheel stance

Car has been lowered, although front is sitting higher than the back as there is no drivetrain in the car, I did see a set of orange coils up front so not sure what make lowering kit it has, will know once I take the tyres off

That's all for now, all comments, critism, suggestions and tips welcome

Thanks
Lushen

Hello guys thanks for the replies, sorry I haven't contributed in a while, but just to let you know that progress will be slow due to work commitments, but for now here is a quick update, had some time yesterday so decided to start working on the Fox

Firstly I changed the rims over from my donor car (Jetta 2 - pics of the donor car can be found on this link - http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=newbies_2%2Fnewbie-from-south-africa_5), as the Fox has steel rims with 155/80/13" tyres and the Jetta has aluminum original vw mag rims with 175/70/13" tyres, which resulted in a slightly better look with no cost

Then I looked at the bumpers which were not in a good state on the Fox, and also the Fox has a Golf mk1 front bumper on the rear which didn't look right, so I decided to see if the Jetta 2 small bumper would work on the fox

Here are some pics of what I did so far

First up is a pic of the car with the Jetta 2 rims and bumpers trial fit

Next up is a pic of the front - (horizontal view) with the Jetta 2 bumper on, note this is just a trial fit so excuse the misalignment, will adjust for final fit if I decide to use these bumpers, I used the Jetta stiffener and bumper with the fox bumper brackets

Here is another pics of the front - elevated view, here you can see the gap between the bumper and front valance

Here is a pic of the left front - horizontal view

Here is another pic of the left front - more elevated view, her you can see that the bumper is catching on the front of the old skool fender and thus sticking outwards as it is smaller in length than a mk1 golf bumper

Here is a pic of the right front - horizontal view

Here is another pic the the right front - elevated view, here again you can see the bumper catches against the corner of the old skool fender and sticks outwards

Now moving to the back, here is a pic of the back bumper horizontal view

And here is a pic of the back, more elevated view

Here is a pic of the right rear

Here is another pic of the right rear - more elevated view, here you can see the gap from the body to the bumper as the Jetta 2 rear bumper is longer than the golf 1 bumper

Here is a pic of the left rear, excuse my thumb blocking the top right of the photo

Here is another pic of the left rear, more elevated view, once again to can see the gap from the body to the bumper

Here is a last pic of the left rear, more fuller view, as you can see bumper is only being held by bumper brackets for test fit

That's all for this update, if I do decide to use the Jetta 2 bumpers they will need modifying for both front and back, so will have to think about how I'm going to make them work as I have to tackle the modification on my own

Any suggestions, comments or critisicm welcome

Thanks
Lushen

What about going with no bumpers?

I think if you try to modify the plastic you might have some trouble. You'd have to remove the bump at the back of the bumper all the way across so where the cuts would be at the corners the rest of the bumper would match.

Like the wheels.
