If its that stuck or just turning on itself etc just use a nut splitter :) They are readily available (M10 1.25 from memory?)

Do it once and do it right! ok, we've identified the problem, lets not make it worse by guessing……… Identifying the sympton is not the same as understanding the cause :)

Been over a month since my last post and month since I'd been down the unit (I did move house), got my ass in gear and went down today, got that pesky nut undone - heat, more heat, WD 40, mole grips and then just wound the track rod out instead haha.

Dropped the entire front suspension, brakes, wishbones and rear anti roll bar all in one go, and then removed the steering rack and a few other bits.

Soaked an triple soaked the rear beam nuts, that's tomorrows job it I make it out of bed!

Bays almost empty… Exciting

Oh almost another month, due an update then! Work has been mental still so only got down there for the first time today, took the dash out, removed the steering column / UJ, gear linkage / nob is gone, handbrake has gone, dropped the rear beam / suspension.

I've been soaking the nuts that hold the rear beam for months, as well as some heat every now and again, mostly to avoid this…

Doh!

Got myself a spit so once I've dropped the tank it's spinning time, get to sort the rust.. woooooo… â~¹ï¸

So, AGM is over, I've had some time to get down the unit!

It's stripped, fuel pump went, so did the tank, windscreen out - it's ready to go on the spit.

Actively looking for the donor car now and I've decided to just pay someone to do the welding, needs a boot floor O/S rear chassis rail, inner and outer rear panel, screw that!

It's gonna be back on the road before the next AGM I hope (probably not!)

Not sure why my mate is hiding in it haha

I thought it'd be finished by now!

Did you get distracted by the shiny mk7 or something?

You're telling me mate - a year and a half since it's been off the road now!

Time and money are just things you can't seem to have enough of!

Sadly the MK7.5 went back, amazing beast though, I'd love one, but the MK1 would never get done haha

I plan on getting down there this weekend and doing some more though, the AGM is great for making you want to do stuff

Spent the day down at the unit again, boot floor / rear panels are worse than I thought, but are gonna get replaced anyways

I thought I was a lot closer to getting it stripped but you find more and more clips and bits! Almost there.

Should I have labeled the loom?

Nah, looms are alright, just lay it out on the floor and separate each loom from the fuse box.

Soon makes sense

Probably  O_o

Yeah I'm not too fussed about it, a lot of you can work out by length I'm assuming / hoping!

Only issue I have is the relays for the electric roof don't pass under the rear strengthening bar so that loom has to be unpicked by the looks of things, doh!

Also, my fingers are killing me - takes it toll spending hours undoing nuts / bolts and squeezing plastic bungs out. I'll have some muscly fingers by the end of this

Went down the unit again on Saturday, split all the loom out and took it out the car, built up the spit I borrowed of my mate, turns out there's some missing so if he can't find the rear brackets I'll have to fabricate some, hopefully get down there again next weekend - or I might go pick the engine up I've bought, we shall see!

Haven't really updated much, mostly because I haven't had a chance to get much done, but I have made a little bit of progress!

I finally sourced an engine after nearly two years of looking, a 100bhp PD, but it's been tunes within an inch of its life, 150 turbo and injectors, VR6 clutch, G60 flywheel. Came with the MK1 mounts, loom, ECU and a load of the bits. 130k on the clock and full VW history up until 86k. It's been dynod at 200BHP, so that should be interesting!

I've started flatting the paint to find all the rust, gonna get the missing brackets made for the spit this week and hopefully get all the paint off. Also had a helper tonight, makes it easier!

Treated her to a "Sunday dinner burger" to say thanks - aren't I nice?

I really need to pull my finger out and get down the unit more, it's been almost two years since I started the project, I know best laid plans and all that but I really did think it was only gonna take 2 years! I probably have another two haha!

Anyway! I finally got the brackets made up for spit, so got it on the spit yesterday, feels like some progress is being made!! Some shit moments lifting the whole shell up though!

I'm heading back down today to start stripping the paint, tries synstryp yesterday, doesn't come off as easy as I thought, gonna take a while

Oh and I did my first bit if welding the other day, it's fun!
