No worries. I'll get one soon. Will be also interested in the badge soon if still there but just spent a bit of cash on a set of new window scrapers and a service next week!

Thanks mate. I'm almost getting stopped on a daily basis by people interested in it! These days I think mk1s really stand out in a sea of boring stuff! Lots left to do but enjoying every minute.

Yes the Sportline is a lovely mk1 - but then I'd be a bit biased. Lol

No problem on the badge. Your doing a cracking job with it. Feel free to join the register of sportlines too. Just added two more cars this week.

Cheers Hugh.

So else is left to do? Loads as always! Needs a black tonneau, correct rear 'GolfGTI' badge, fitting of some original uncut door pockets I've acquired, rocker cover gasket, original style gamma or beta stereo, rear spat decals and touch ups here and there.

Still got intermittent MFA display - works in extreme cold only???!!! Still got hood leak fixed crudely over winter with vaseline :o and still got wash/wipe connection issues. I'm assuming I should have 'intermittent wipe' but stalk won't go down for some reason. Slight hesitancy low revs when cold too, but has been a bit better on momentum and some fuel cleaner.

All in all very happy and can't wait for spring/summer. Lost no love for the MK1 and hope to go to some shows this year.

isn't that the correct Golf GTI Badge on it? looks like a late one from the pictures.

Keep meaning to sort the Sportline register thing - it's on the 'must do' list!!

I'm pretty sure it's the wrong badge looking at several other Sportlines - and Rivages for that matter. I think it's a late Mk2 one, which although the same era and looks nice is not original. It also doesn't quite stick on under the 'G' in Golf so improvised with double sided tape for now.

It's wierd - 5 years ago I'd have have seen it as a cosmetic upgrade, now it's the devil in the detail to have it as standard original! Am I getting old??!!

I know what you mean about originality, Just be thankful there isn't too much to revert back on yours! The guy who had mine must of read one too many max powers I think :ninja: I'm not going full original as I think it would be cheaper to look out for another car but as long as you like how yours looks then that's all that matters I think :)

I'm only going that way as it was so original bar a few bits so seemed wrong to modify it! I should get another really to do differently……

Rocker cover gasket done today so no more leaks! Plan to change oil/filter/sump plug, air filter and spark plugs this weekend. Bought wrong fuel filter so that (probably messy!) job will wait for a few weeks. Engine bay needs a good clean too. Got one of those household steam cleaners - anyone know the best detergent to use with them?

Can buy the branded stuff like vax etc but personally I wouldn't bother, the steam alone should do it. Few microfiber cloths help

Cars looking good mate!

New v old! image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg £92.50 seems a lot for some rubber, but well worth it in the end.

Nice job on the rubber trims. Are they the same end profile as originals?

Cheers Hugh.

Think so. They fit well and were from classic VW parts so pleased with the result. You have to cut the rears (carefully!) with a hack saw to fit. Bit fiddly to do without breaking clips but thankfully mine were in good condition. Rubbers that came off were totally shot though.

Finally bought the mudflaps I've Ben 'watching' on EBay. I know they're not OEM but the font is right, and having had a similar set on my first mk1 in '96, the era is close! Had to do something to keep some crud off on this daily!

Because I have a fetish about mud flaps!  :$

I've even seen one guy who fitted a set of Mk2 on his and they did look cool.

Mudflaps look great, as do your window scrapers. I need to buy those also. How many clips are on each one?

Pretty easy. There's a choice of 3 self tapping screws or two clamps. Although I don't like the idea of hole drilling, imo the screws give a tidier closer fit. Essentially they are a universal fit and there are several on eBay - just not with the 'GTI' motif. These cost £15 posted.
