Conversion

All things considered the engine came out pretty well with the exception of unbolting the manifold.

Now to just pop in the abf on Mk1 box so using existing engine mount points.

Offered up the Dubpower 4 branch and found it foils the steering rack. To get the clearance I spaced the rear engine mount by 8mm. May have to look at it again once the car is up and running. Perfect conversion down pipes my left foot.

Thought I would offer up the carbs and see what they look like. Need to change the trumpets for smaller ones for more clearance.

So that's about as far as I have got since January juggling this between work, wife, kids. Things still to do Brake set up. Suspension. Wire in Nodiz management. Finish coolant system wire in fans. Set gear linkage. Bolt up exhaust. Headlights and tail lights. Sort out the sill where over the years people have jacked it up. Paint front panel. Also some other bits and bobs I am yet to come across.

Also fit new low pressure fuel pump hook up the carbs how did I forget that.

Thanks for the build thread Ian! It looks a great MK1, is it in as good condition as it looks?

Nice engine and with the carbs it should go and sound good!

You can post multiple photos in a single post by the way, should save you some time ;)

Ref the heat on the steering rack gaitor, the best option would be to heat wrap your manifold.

Nice number plate too!

I think it looks as good in the flesh as in photos it was re sprayed a couple of years ago by the previous owner. The main reason I bought this one is it is clean and solid. A perfect base for things to come lol. I have heard wrapping manifolds can cause cracking? I did think about wrapping the rack but not sure or half wrapping the manifold

Nice car. Digging the White on white 3 spokes. ABF are a great engine. I had one in a Vento so should really shift in a mk1.

I've never heard of manifolds cracking after being wrapped - rusting yes - but yours looks stainless anyway?

Maybe someone with greater knowledge than me on the matter can shed some light on it! lol
