SA brake bar copy is now finished, pretty sure it will work better than the original push pull push system and fitted with my brand new (expensive ) 16v type servo.
Love your SA brake bar copy. Is it fabricated from scratch or is it based on another vehicle?
If you have details I would be most grateful as I would like to replicate this as no chance of getting an original.
Can't go wrong with stainless CQ's fuel parts
Likewise, that's interesting, more detail please!

Because i had no way to turn up a pair of bush,s and i wasnt sure what to use for the long bar i decided to use ready made parts, i chose the bits from a mk 5 / 6 ford escort. The box that holds the servo started out as the original golf part but now modified. the bracket on the driver side is fabricated from scratch using 3mm steel plate which is what original items seemed to be. Only thing because i had no way to bend 3 mm plate i used sections welded together, bent items would look more pleasing. Also stressed sections were double thickness.. As i had previously owned a SA bar any extra holes ( 2 at the top of each bracket) had already been drilled to fit that..

Thanks for that. I have a spare servo bracket and some 3mm mild steel so just need to source the rod.abfmk1 said

Was the mk5/6 escort cross shaft the right length for the existing Mk1 mounting point to work e.g. the cams the clevis pins attach to were aligned in the correct locations?
I've had a look on the bay and can't see any available. I guess they are the type of part that no one ever changes as they last for ever. I've seen a few Mondeo ones of the same era though. I will check out their part numbers to see if it matches the Mk5/6.

I didnt attempt to use the long bar with original arms, i ground the originals of and made my own ( my aim was for the bar to just clear the heater hoses.) from 5mm or 6mm thick bar. The escort bar wasnt advertised, i looked for escort breakers.

Ah cool thought that might be the case. As you said the bushing are the key bit. I've gone and bought this Mondeo one to give it ago
Thanks for all the advice. Better warm up the MIG )

So decided i cannot financially carry on with this and have advertised it for sale, in fact it has been sold, As collection is a few weeks away i am showing the buyer what he is getting by going back to page 1 and adding some photos as i assemble it.. EDIT EDIT. 19/10/20. How i wish i hadnt sold this, prices seem to have jumped in the last year, finding it extremely difficult to find another gti i can afford…
