Done a little bit today. Needed to get the engine mount replaced. Here is old and new. The old one is absolutely mullered!

Also got some new fuel lines. Stainless braided:

Footballs on now though…

I've done a fair bit recently. Here's the end of the braided fuel lines (made in Germany):

Spent ages drilling out this bolt as it had sheared:

Fitted bits of the brake system ready to make hard brake lines:

Front brake lines made up:

The process:

The end product:

Then did the first rear line:

These have now been lacquered in the engine bay to try and stop them going green. I still need to do the axle hard lines but awaiting delivery of my braided brake lines.

I then thought sod it, I'll put its heart back in. Took the brake lines out of the way and started manoeuvring it in to place:

I forgot to actually take one of it in the bay but it's now fitted and tucked up for the week as Im off on a Eurotrip :)

Also, it sits a bit lower now:

Tidy work there and that's one hefty flaring tool - makes mine look weedy!   That makes a good end though so no leakage problems for you.

Keep us posted on if lacquering the pipes works, it would be nice to know you can keep them all shiny

Yeah the flaring tool is from around war times apparently. It's been passed through 3 generations. It was a bit of an a$$ to hump the vice around when doing the ends under the back of the car but they don't make tools like they used to :)

No they don't, that's one that you want to hold on to!

Well after hibernating over winter, the sun is shining so the cabby gets some loving.

I've now rebuilt the brake calipers and painted them. Long after that I've done a few bits of wiring, the bay, the interior. Here's the pics:

Dash in

Rear seats and interior bits in

Started pulling bits out of boxes and found these

Alternator cleaned up

Starter given a lick of paint

More bits added to the bay

A view of the fuse box

Also does anyone know what this wire is?

Hopefully should be more regular updates now the weather has arrived :)

that 2 pin plug looks to be for the MFA stalk switch, what are the wire colours on the loom before the 2 pin plug thats snapped off?

They're brown and red all the way in to the loom, or do you mean the bit hanging out with the crushed crimps?

If so, I'll have to check tonight.

Cool. Where should the wires for it come out the loom and are they a particular colour?

Thanks in advance.

one wire hangs out the clock plug, the other goes over to the fusebox with the clock earth. another clue is if your mfa stalk has a snapped off plug and/or isnt plugged into anything :)

the only other thing i can think of is the plug for the choke warning light, but since this is a GTI it cant be that…

I really need to stop setting myself deadlines as I never keep them lol

I started back on it a couple of weeks ago by finishing building the driveshafts and driverside hub. These are now all fitted.

Next on the agenda was to turn it around and put it's bum in the air as I need to focus on the fuel system next.

Unfortunately my garage roof has leaked and I found a pool of water in the rear foot wells the other day. I'm now in possession of a beefy dehumidifier so tonight I'll be ripping the interior back out again and sucking all the moisture out before going back in. It gives me another chance to clean the rear carpet as it was noticeably dirty once I'd cleaned the front. I'm hoping  I don't have to redo the underlining as it's all stuck down.

Anyway, here's a pic of the rear now she's been turned around:

The shame haha

I've been doing little bits on it here and there for the past couple of months. I'll try and put some progress up on here. Just need to finish the fuel system and sort the electrics to get her running then I'll send it to the body shop to finish and an MOT. Hoping that'll be in August.

Thanks for the reminder though :)
