Modified GTI Engineering

Hi Guys

I've just acquired a 1982 Golf GTi in need of restoration.

It was stripped out for use as track day car and so I'm busy sourcing the interior and other necessary bits.

The engine has had a bit of work as have the suspension and brakes.

I'm told the engine has a bottom end from a Mk2 8V GTi mated to a gas flowed solid lifter head from a Mk1 1.8.  The head has been ported and flowed and has a high lift cam fitted.  So far so good.  Here's were it gets strange.  The rocker cover has been replaced with a tall block cover from a Mk3.  The gearbox is a 1.6 Mk3 from a 1600.  It has a points dizzy and the injection system has been stripped out and replaced with an SU carb.  I know, weird or what.  He has also blocked of the injection holes.

I want to put the car right.  I'm happy with the top and bottom end as they are as they seem to work well.  However, I want to restore the injection system.

How hard will this be?

I'm also told, as an aside, that the car was originally a GTI Engineering vehicle, though I have no evidence to support this.

Any help or advice on correcting the engine would be greatly appeciated.

Cheers

Tim

Welcome Tim

I can't help too much, but guess it wont be too hard, I guess you'll need a new head if your injector holes have been blocked off.

The different gearbox could be for gearing as a track car?

SU carb - different for a Golf!!

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be along shortly ;)

it shouldnt be to hard tbh hope fully the injector ports have been blocked up sensibly if so then everything should bolt on you would then need to source or make up a wiring loom to run it

ive got a complete injection setup going spare minus wiring if needed

Hi Dik

Thanks for the reply.  Very encouraging. How much are you looking for for the injection system?

Would I also need the inlet manifold (the original has been adapted to take the SU carb).

What is included in the injection system you've got?

Hi, Tim, good luck with getting your car back to normal. I also have a full injection system just sitting doing nothing, I also have a DX head spare if needed, I'm sure between us all we can sort you out!!

I'm delighted and amazed by the response.

If you can get back to me and let me know how much you want for the injection system and head I'd be grateful.

will include inlet manifold, meter head, injectors, k and n filter, warm up regulator, injectors, injector fuel lines, dizzy. bassically everything needed from the the meter head to the injectors all ran fine up untill my oil pump failed so im now going 1.8t so have no use for it

Hi Barry

Thanks for that.

I'll sort payment tomorrow by Paypal.  No rush on the bits though.
