Thanks Andy. This is my very FIRST set of aftermarket wheels I've EVER bought  :o

With the weather being a bit unsettled, I though I'd start the oil and filter change. Below is the picture of a genuine VW oil filter bought from the main VW dealers LAST WEEK. Apparently they only sell 2-3 of these a year. You'd never guess, would you? O_o VW Genuine Oil Filter Golf GTI

Thanks. I'm glad I went for the Graphite colour wheels.

Such a difficult decision when both WHITE and GOLD wheels were also available!!

Finally after a long time of doing nothing, I've finally sorted some new bits to add to the car.  :)It's something I'm be meaning to do for a couple of years now. So it was great to see it get delivered today.

The foot plates are a good 1-2mm thicker than the existing panels/shell!

Just need to find some time now to get the work started

Just to mention that at the last MOT the engine was running a bit leaner than it needed to be (1.49%), the max for an MOT pass is 4.5%.

So I took her for a quick tune up last week. Changes made were:

1.9mm main jets installed.
Needles dropped down +1
Ignition timing advanced to 30 Deg.  :o

Previously you could feel the power starting to tail off at 5000 rpm. Now it just keeps pulling to the limiter, with an approximate air-fuel ratio of 11 rather than 14.

It now sounds and feels so much better.  :)

OK it's strip-down time!

The plan is to remove the interior, fit the cage and then retrofit the original interior back in.

Mindful that most the interior has never been removed since it left the VW factory back in 1983, the approach was the be very, very careful with removing the trim, clips and panels etc.

All interior door-cards to be stored out the way. Not sure where though!

I didn't know that - seats belt made in Austria!

And were made in November 1982!

Carpets are to be removed too.

Trial fitting of the main hoop. The headlining will remain in the car, so good to see it will fit snuggly below this.

But a bit of re-thinking will be needed for the seat belts mounting points!
