Mk1 Golf Clipper Cabrio

Post

Ive recently bought this Mk1 Golf off my dad (he's had it for a few years - it's been sat in a barn for most of these).

I'll try to remember to add photos as I go along - it'll be a slow process!

So far, things on the list to do:
Very thorough clean
Cambelt change,
Figure out why the electric roof doesn't work,
Fix a window that goes down but not up,
Small tear in drivers seat that will need patching up,
Full service And MOT….and I'm sure MUCH more!

Welcome to the Club first of all, great to have you aboard and in a Cabby as well!

Just looking at the photos it looks light you might need to purchase a new roof as well.
If you look at how the roof is sitting above the B Pillar is just not right and I'm not sure if that much can be adjusted.

If you think your going to be needing parts, services etc…
Do seriously think about becoming a fully Paid Member of the Club!

You'll get really good discounts from a large range of companies (see down the left side of the home page), access to the Members Only Lounge, discount at the Club shop and a whole lot more.

You'll get your money back in no time at all!

Well the Golf is now home on the drive.

It's been given a quick wash to just get a bit of the loose dirt off. Will be getting a good snowfoam and claying tomorrow if the weather is good.

We have found that the roof does work but will need to look at the B Pillar situation.

The drivers side window doesn't even go down now, but you can hear the motor clicking away any thoughts?

Also the Speedo needle has snapped off so going to have to remove the clocks and try and maybe glue it back together, as it's snapped 1/3rd of the way down :).

Well, today I drove the Golf for the first time (albeit a couple of minutes to turn around in the drive and a number of thoughts have since been running through my head…
1. What have I done
2. How am I going to use this as a daily driver
3. Is there anyway I can get power steering installed (out of the many cars I have owned, only my second didn't have PS)
4. Is the clutch always going to be this heavy?

Just to name a few…I also have some concerns about the roof (following a previous comment made above) - see pictures :)
