MK1 Clipper in for stock - you may recognise the owner ;)

Post

Back to the top
Today we picked up our next car for stock at Yesterday's Cars - https://www.facebook.com/yesterdayscars

It's a 1991 Clipper, with 89,000 miles on the clock and is pretty much immaculate - or at least it will be once it's detailed. There's no rust at all on the bodywork, the engine bay seems completely rust free too and the underside is also very solid. As well as an external detail, the arches and engine bay will get some thorough elbow grease thrown at them to make them look like new again.

The roof was replaced 5 years ago and the car has been in underground storage for most of this time so it's like new.

The following pic isn't great of the car - we'll get some more up shortly - but you may recognise the nice chap that we purchased it from ;)

OMG!
What a great looking Cabby.  :thumbs:

Shame about the foreground, even Photoshop would have it's work cut out cleaning that picture up!  :lol:

A few little things have been taken care of today - sorting the interior light which now works and bleeding and topping up the roof fluid. Then a chunk of elbow grease was thrown in to the boot!

A few more pics on the FB page but we went from this;

to this;

It's great to see it to start to clean-up. There's plenty more time to go in to it yet but I think this one will be a stunner ;)

Hey Andy, that looks great but how do you guys do it too that detail?

Mine looks good but there's something about your that looks much better.

Maybe it's the the time spent on it or the light and quality of the photo but there is something.

Hats off to you!   :thumbs:

Have to admit that this year I've spent far more time driving it than cleaning it.

Less time on this forum might help!

Lol no driving is good, that's what they're built for!! lol

I guess the lighting has helped only has had a flood light on the boot to help see.

We've done nothing other than use a lot of elbow grease and a few products for the stubborn stuff. If the paint has been scuffed or scratched in the boot (and there's not much) then it stays as is, everything else is clean, fresh and white.

Thanks for the compliments though  :thumbs:

That looks pretty good - I had a white cabby as my very first mk1. It was a cracker.  :thumbs:

The boot looks brill and still has the original options sticker and the spare wheel sticker which is good to see.  :)

Cheers Hugh.

Under the back seat cleaned-up nicely too.

We've left the wax in the side pods but the dirt has gone!! It looks like the loose, red wire is from an old alarm so that will come out once both ends have been traced ;)

More cleaning has occurred during this week.  All info on our Facebook page - Log into Facebook - but here's a few pics for your viewing pleasure!

Something you can all help with (quickly! lol) is wheel choice. We went to stick on the BBS RX2s today so the other wheels could go off for refurb, and we're thinking the RX2s may actually suit the car - with a slightly bigger profile tyre. However, feedback on our Facebook page so far is stick with the wheels that came on the Cabby.

So, what's your thoughts? RX2s as per the front wheel or keep what's on the rear?

All comments welcome :)

I can't remember to be honest! It's not the cambelt one. I'll have a look tomorrow, it looks like it's been there since new.

After much deliberation we have gone down the G60 steelies route. A decent set came up looking like new, with four new Toyos on so well worth the money. This is a library pic only but can't wait to get them on the car (not that you need to know what G60s look like! lol)

Today we've changed the cambelt, dizzy cap and rotor arm. It was surprising how slack the old rotor arm was! We're cracking on with the cleaning and the engine bay is starting to come up nicely. Much more to do though!  O_o

Thanks Matt!

Well the engine bay is pretty much done, just need to clean and replace the scuttle cover and grill. That said the engine bay is looking respectable now ;)

The G60s turned up on Friday and we're well pleased with them. I knew they were good but expected some dinks, marks etc but they look like new - and the Toyos have zero miles on them - well happy! Here's one fitted;

On Friday we finished the engine bay with the final touch too!

We also finished giving the paint its 'decontamination' with removing all waste trims and badges then claying the car and removing any tar spots. It's amazing how many can be on a car that you don't see at first. Next up is cleaning the other three arches and the machine polish.
