Got the gearbox etch primed, black enamelled and output flanges painted. New input shaft seal and output shaft seals as well.

Now I wouldn't advise this manoeuvre with fresh paint and I'm not really sure it should be attempted without removing the entire engine. Dad and I tilted the engine on the drivers side mount. Bashed up the lower chassis leg where the tie rod passes through so had to repair that after everything was in.
Got the thing in eventually.
The 02j / 02a VR6 V5 bell housings are wider than the 5 speed bell housing so was catching the bolts on the casing .
Bit of sanding, priming and colour and all good again. Was pleased with the result in that tight area.

Got exhaust on and back on the ground. Great news is it goes forward and backward but haven't had the chance to drive it as it's sorn at the mo. No unusual sounds which is great news .

Got some new wheels .
Unfortunately my helper was sleeping on the job.
I think this will finish the look off, rear will go on as well. Just a mock up.
and this as a sump early warning detector .

Used stainless torx screws which I will paint black but they are all greased up. Fitment of the pattern spats was surprisingly good .

Can I ask where you got the arch trims, they look really good and I need a set.

Looking lovely, really suits the new wheels and in my opinion the original GTi arch spats look so much nicer against the yellow paintwork.

Thank you sir. The arch trims really do suit the colour scheme. I'm really pleased I went this direction.
I bought the arch trims from Mark at Classic VW a couple years ago and had them in storage but it looks like he is out of stock .
I'll get her out for better shots this week. Will get the duck bill on tomorrow .

Mark at Classic VW said the part might need some fettling to fit and to shave it down.
The fit was questionable but with some file sander got it spot on .
