Insane build! Very impressive..

Which exhaust system do you plan ? Custom? I'm also doing a R32 swap and can't decide if the money is well spent on a Milltek.. ? I also have the Eurowise header.

Thank you :)I have a Miltek Classic exhaust which I will make up a joining section to the Eurowise header.  The R32 has a stock bore of 2.5" for the Mk5 engine. Unfortunately the Miltek is 2.25".

I will get it tuned by Stealth racing when it's running and will check on the dyno if it's choking the engine.

It was an expensive exhaust to start with and I like the look of it so will give it a go first and then get a custom one if necessary.

Thanks for answering…

Well I , thought the R32 was 2.25" orginal but thats only the mk4 golf. My engine is a BUB from a Mk5.

I like the idea of a 2.25" since it will be an easier fit, but with the stock exhaust being 2.5" i think I will look for another system, maybe JETEX, thats is 2.5"…

Thats right Mk4 2.25" and mk5 2.5". I guess the stock R32 exhaust would be a lot more restrictive with catalytic convertors.

Hopefully having a straight through exhaust with 2 inline silencers and no cats which is shorter than a stock R32 should flow well even if it's 2.25", I hope ;)

Oh and I've had the 2.5" Jetex exhaust when the car had a G60 engine. Good exhaust and fits well but didn't like the tail pipe.

Been a little while.

Should be moving in several weeks time (fingers crossed).

Clearing the garage up for moving day and put the wings and bonnet roughly back on for transport. Pretty dusty at the mo, poor thing O_o gallery_23668_521_175157.jpg gallery_23668_521_199324.jpg gallery_23668_521_419182.jpg gallery_23668_521_425721.jpg

Great work there mate. I'll be following very closely as I'm doing the same conversion.
I'm doing a complete rebuild of the car so I'm doing a lot of body work at the mo but Iv got the motor and and a VR box ready.
I hope the move goes well bud and I can't wait for some more updates 👌

I'm back :lol:After weeks / months of stress and anxiety the move has happened .

Unfortunately I have a list of things to do first to the bungalow before I can have a proper play with the car. I have a loft conversion to organise and new kitchen before the wife will let me extend the garage.

I currently have an over sized single garage but the plan is to double the length once those bits are complete. I lack power to it as well which is a pain but nothing too difficult to sort out.

Bit of a pain to get it up the drive though, no steering column / steering wheel  also didn't help the wheels were doing a snow plow because of no alignment.

Took an hour to winch it up 4 foot at a time, the neighbours were probably thinking what on earth.

Any more updates on this Rich? Loving the work so far.

Sorry if it's been covered before but there are lots of pages to go back through. Which gearbox have you gone for? Is it a vr6 clutch & flywheel you are using?

The car looks great on steel wheels, I've decided that's the looks I want for mine.

Not quite yet. Just checking with the local planning department whether I can extend the garage. Should hear this week if it's permitted development. Building control has told me its exempt so all good :)Originally I got a V5 gearbox which has the correct bell housing but after talking to Vince at Stealth racing he said go for a Corrado VR6 gearbox as the V5 is too close ratio. I have fitted a diesel 5th gear from a CTN box to give me a nice cruising RPM. Yes VR6 flywheel and VR6 clutch :)

Good news, been a long wait but received a response from the planners.

It appears I fall under permitted development so I can crack on when I like. Going to start the build of the garage late summer but in the mean time I have started organising the Golf in the Garage and sorting out the parts I need for quick access.

Will get a proposed illustration of the garage up tonight :)

Started to set-up the garage and car ready to get back in to it. Removed the bonnet and mounted it to the wall to make more room in the engine bay.

Getting there now  , because I've been allowed (by she who must be obeyed) to extend my garage first I had to prioritise the garden next.

3 skips of earth and rubble later and a new retaining wall. Should be completely done in the next 2 weeks, just got a lawn and patio to lay  :lol:I will then be completely focused on the Golf.    IMG_20190209_172741210 (Large).jpg IMG_20190321_182140232 (Large).jpg IMG_20190414_105107253_HDR (Large).jpg

But in the mean while does anyone know where I can find these parts for the rear brake proportioning valve?

Back on it ;)My plan is to get the engine running and everything in situe and revisit some of the paint work. Unfortunately the winter hasn't been kind with the garage build and the car being out in a damp garage. Some of the alloy parts have oxidised through the paint mainly on the gearbox but ultimately its going to come off again for an LSD or a 6 speed 02M with an LSD, so not the end of the world.

Started building up the front of the block with an alloy crack pipe and Eurowise alloy thermostat housing. Fitted a new alternator in the top position of a modified accessory bracket.
