did you get the rain tray out in one piece?
i was impatient and cut it out in 3…
but after a few years realising if i ever got stopped by the coppers they would probably take the car off me i just bought a complete front end and I'm going to weld my vin onto it and then re install the rain tray i may even re open the heater box hole dont get me wrong it looks great but its slightly worrying as the car needs to be identifiable by a number that forms part of the chassis in the original location
Hi George,
Yep got the raintray out in one piece, have photographic evidence and can be welded back no worries I was thinking of welding the VIN at the back of the heater fan hole to protect it from the elements but worried it may get covered by paint or even arrange for the strut towers to be stamped officially.
I will have the riveted plate in stock location.
I always planned to keep my Golf for the long term and as I said it's only a 1.1 shell. I'm handy with a welder and spray gun so nothing is impossible to return to stock.
i welded a stainless steel plate on the strut tower with my chassis number from under the arch so no welding shows, looks good but engraving into it like a series 1 would be the best way for you if possible
good work so far, interested to see your remote servo install as i miss that too lol
might try this outhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401223257009?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Saved the cut-out in case I change my mind
Copied the cutout but seems the mild steel I have was considerably thicker.
Tacked in to position
All welded up and ground back
Next bit to do is the remaining 15 holes in the bulk head

Plenty of this Removed all the tabs as well, never realised there were little indents where the tabs were attached.
I removed the brake bar / pedal / steering column reinforcement bracket as A it has been removed and re welded at some point and the welds were nasty plus I plan to make a superior bracket out of stainless.
Also means I can access the area behind it better when the bodywork starts
Looking to finish the bulkhead by next weekend so the bodywork can start

Like you say amazing how many holes there are, have you found the seam sealed in bungs yet? They're fun, just when you think you've nearly finished another one pops up!
What you doing with speedo cable? Have you figure out where and what your doing with the wiring yet?
I'm trying to figure out the route for the main feed to the starter.

I've done the removal of the clips and welded up the holes in the bulkhead too, although I'm keeping the heater and raintray.

Do you mean the bungs on the inner wings? Yep found a few there.
I don't think there is anyway to avoid the odometer cable. It comes out through a section of the dash that is really tight and the cluster backs right on to it, any tight angles in that cable and the needle jumps round like a rabbit.
I think the compromise is that cable will have to be visible along with the brake servo vacuum feed unless someone else has any suggestions?
Going to run the loom through the inner arch at the top and pop through where the back of the main beam is. Im going to drastically slim down the loom and not going for a crazy show look. It needs to stay practical as it will be used

Has anyone looked into gps speedos?
No mile counter though
I could just run Audi clocks but want the stock cluster and speedo working.

VDO do a GPS sender that can be used to connect to the clocks so they work as normal. It's around $200 though and I've only found it in the states! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371302536712?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Thought it can't do any harm making it more rigid.
Just got to the other side of the bay now. Will get some pics up later.
