Back in the day when the S1 was considered new I had a GLS with the small rear lights.
Looking back at old photos and apart from cringing at the fashion sense I had then I can see no plastic number plate holder in the photos. It was a 77 model, trim levels may have altered on later models.
Just food for thought before you splash the cash again.
Graham
Thanks Graham, I never even thought about looking at other pics of cars :-(
Cheers very muchly :-D

Should the ends be black of the tailgate trim and have to cut the length down ??
I wouldn't think so !!

I am not going to use the chrome trim as its cr*p.
Good news is the car won Car of the Month
Thanks to everyone who took their time to vote for it as it certainly deserves it IMO.
As I am working way to many hours, the car is already packed away for the winter, garage door all sealed off, car covered in soft fleeces, windows down slightly, Kampa dampbuster inside for the condensation, petrol tank topped up, trickle charger on and central heating radiator to keep it cosy.

It sounds like it will be warmer and more loved than you, Shona and the kids!
What about tyres? Are you removing the wheels or leaving on?

Haven't gave the tyres much thought, I will inflate them to 50psi to stop flat spots and move the car in the garage prob

To be fair, this is probably not advised, but I put my car away which was meant to be short term, it didn't move for 3 1/2 years and it's still on the same tires now, back on the road and through MOT!

The way this post is going, we will be seeing next months and still talking about the September winner (bottom of page 7 now).
And why not I say, not to put a down the worthy winner next month!
It could be me but I could also win the 'Euro Lottery' with my numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 bonus numbers 7 and 8!
Well done again Chris, enjoy the glory, that's one hell of a Mk1 you've got yourself there!

Thanks for that.
Both the black section and the chrome trim were either damaged or kept off for some reason ?

I am officially mental.
Saw a few s1 parts for sale so bought a fog light switch, ashtray, hazard switch, centre dash grill, rear heater switch, headlight switch and a full double pod dash with clocks.
Why ???
Spares or just mental ness :-)
But I thought they were well worth their money

After buying the sh*t chrome strip from Germany,
dubboy
has rescued me with a good used real tailgate strip.
Also checked with the previous owner James, regarding the black rear panel and he checked with his Dad who told him it was broken and glued together, they also didn't want another one on as they don't like it, as I don't.

Good news that you've managed to get a proper chrome tailgate strip. I guess you'll be using new double sided tape ?
Never noticed that the GLS models had a black rear panel before, and it would be a shame to cover up your shiny new paintwork.
Slightly off topic - I could be wrong but I think the red W reg GLS in the pics went on to become Danny Smiths famous brown mk1 that picked up lots of awards a few years back. Re-registered on an R plate.

Sadly, you are correct. But the joy of passing it broken down on the hard shoulder made up for it….a bit.
