mot by bert
then stanford hall, then just waiting for the AG to come around
so with a restoration in mind it was time to start doing stuff
so for off was the rebuild of the original engine out of the motor
cleaned and powdercoated orginal colour
so some of the parts i've been refurbing got fitted
alternator refurb
vac pump refurb
water pump
all fitted up
so the plan is to get the engine ready, then after the AG take it off the road for a full refurb hopefully
but if the shell resto doesn't happen this year then no problem
with not having a garage i need things ready to fit once the shell returns quickly so it;s going to be a slow progress
enjoy

Gonna be doing the cam belt on the N/A at the end of the month as the engine mount on that side is FUBAR.

the starter wasn't cranking fast enough then it stopped cranking all together
taking it apart i discovered the rear bush had collapes and made the brushes do this
opps
so i ordered the bits to rebuild it but in the mean time i tarted up the exterior of is
blasted an powdercoated the black bits and the mounting bit i bead blasted
come up a treat
anyway turns out this could still be the orginal motor with all the stamps on the body and the solinoid as well

god these old starter motors are turning out to be a right
part of the reason the motor died was that the rear bush had collapsed meaning to much movement and it cause the brush holder to move and stread itself
so these 317 seris bosch starter have 3 bush, drive end, intermediate, com end,
the drive end and com end are avaible from a rebuild plate but the intermediate isn't
so i found what the bush are, turns out the are sintered bronze which are avaible in certain sizes so i bought a larger one a machined it down
fits lovely old vs new
these are the 3 bushes that fit in motor
sintered bronze is a oil impregnated bronze bush that self lubes itself as it wears. to get the oil into the material you supose to leave them in oil or warm them in a pot of oil
anyway at work we have this
it's a vacuum pot that draws air out of things, we use it mainly for drawing air out of alidite and other mixes but today it sucked the air out of my bush while in a pot of oil
picture of the air being drawn out of the bushs
then after this they are removed and pressed into the starter body ready for the rebuild to continue tomorrow
not the best update but it's kept me entertained today during my breaks
