the cone is crap in all honesty but it's a short term fix until i get something else sorted

it is alittle noisy

Thought it would be noisy

I've got a mk2 GTD airbox sat in the garage, Matt from Oldbury has first dibs on it (he has some side strips that I'm happy to swop with him in exchange, if he needs it for his TD conversion), but if he dont need it then you know where it is.

I originally put the GTD airbox on my TDI, but had induction noises, so gone for a KIA 1.5 TD airbox as it accomodated the MAF and allowed me to change the airflow shape to reduce induction noise.

seems we have hit a big problem

the engine came without a thermostat in it… Fair enough!!

i'll put on in then

then driving around yesterday the temp stays good when pottering around

but then when you are under full load and high speeds the temp get hot hot hot

thought i'd change the radiator as the old one was old a tired

still the same :(

bit of mayo on the fill cap :(

the breather had plenty of water in it :(

took the rocker cover off to find a grey oil substance

seems the head or head gasket has gone…..!!! thats why there wasn't a thermostat in there :banghead:

just my luck at the minute really

got a block tester coming tomorrow so after that test is shall rip the head off and get it sort

:(

Go for another head rather than weld it imo. You could get a cold weld with an unseen crack and then  you'll be cursing. If you do repair it you'll have to get it crack tested as if the thermostat was missing its probably been cooked already.

i will start looking but there ain't that many out there, the 1.6D head is the same so i have that as a back up :)

i shall take it to a diesel specialist i know to see what they have say

hopefully i can get some good news for once

seem everything that could have gone wrong has over the past couple of weeks :(
