since my last update i have changed the lights for standard uk lights so now i won't be blinding drivers along the roads!
however i have now discovered a gearbox leak! its never ending this!
if anyone knows of common leaks from the gearbox let me know!
i have just spent a few hours cleaning the gearbox as much as i can and in the morning i should be able to see a trail where the leak is coming from. i think it is from the speedo housing, however i thought this was above the oil line, so we shall see.

just a quick update.
so yesterday i did the job i feared the most, messing with the timing of the engine (I'm a timing belt virgin!)
i knew there was a leak coming from that side of the engine, along the timing belt. so i stripped it all down and when i got to the intermediate shaft to my amazement the seal wasn't seated in the housing at all! how all the oil wasn't spewing out of the hole i will never know, but anyway i managed to sort the issue, changed the seal, changed the oil and filter and changed the timing belt as the old one was contaminated with oil. so now i should, fingers crossed as it has only been a day, have a leak free engine! all ready for the trip to cornwall
still got the smaller items on the list but I'm getting there

so the old girl is now leak free and gained her stripes by making it to cornwall and back to cheltenham in 3/4 of a tank of fuel loving that mpg! i bought a new radio for christmas as a present to her! managing to grab a Blaupunkt Cupertino 220 with 25% off got the roof down today and loving this crisp weather!
i went to a scrap yard early december to get some steel wheels, thinking the winter was going to be icy and snowy, yet to see either of these tho! managed to get a set from a mk3 with decent tyres for £30! what a bargain!

new list of whats left to do:
1. lubricate door opening levers
2. ensure gearbox isn't leaking anymore
3. clutch will need replacing soon.
4. still got the rust patch next to the bonnet catch to do.
and i think thats it! nothing major and needing to be done immediately which is good news!
