Great project love the ambition.
I noticed you have got 4x4 in mind. Just a few pointers so you don'tget stuck.

The eibach arbs won't fit the rear neither will the coilovers with the awd set up you will need the rallye/synchro suspension and arbs.
The fresh mk1 drivshafts you have won't fit the 02m box you will need 107mm inner c.vs and outers that will fit the mk1 hubs (custom)
Prop shaft will need shortening and re balancing
Along with the rear driveshafts.
Mounting the synchro cradle with the haldex needs a custom rear beam.
Mk1 exhaust system won't fit past the rear beam, custom required.
O2m mounts will need custom build as mk1 O2m mounts don'texist.
Hydraulic custom mk1 clutch needed with mk4 master cylinder.

If you already knew all this im sorry to bore you but if you didnt it should help you past some obstacles

Feel free to fire any questions at me. We love to help building dubs.

Wow you really have the bug. caddy and the 3.5 golf, almost as bad as my self. I read through the post for the second time and realised you were making sence with the build. Great to see such scope and ingenuity. Have you decided on what haldex controller you will use and how will you tackle the immobilisation ?
I have a vr6 syncho turbo that I am considering haldex on. If it works out well I will haldex the rallye also.
Also if you need a home for the unwanted bits we could do with a few extras here and there . GREAT WORK .

Iam now making a start on the syncro transmission tunnel ,I have drilled the spot welds on the syncro transmission tunnel and cleaned the metal all up and now it is ready to be fitted.ive jacked the car up in the air now and levelled the car all round and scrapped off  the floor sounddeading and made my measurements and I have now made my first cut no going back now.ive noticed a signature on the oringnal trans tunnel may have been done at the factory.will get some pics up later.

Well as you can see by the picture the tunnel is close to being done,I've went down the route by keeping the factory look as was intended when it was fitted to a syncro.i bought me some jogglers a made a step in the mk1 floor pan as seen in pics and now it will give the floor strength once it is all welded in.i was just going to butt weld it all in but I think I made the right choice,The flanges of the tunnel now sit flush with the floor pan as it should it look,it look like it was always like that from new.

The tunnel turned out to be a pain, because I did not go down the route of a front subframe, the front section of the tunnel would have took out steering rack and rear engine mount so I've had to rework it all to save all my hard work I already did.i pleased how it turned out maybe in a week or two it will be finished.i mean the tunnel not the car lol.

Good work Mike  !!

At the same time that you did all that tunnel stuff I managed to change my wheels over, about the same mechanical knowledge needed I think.
