Exhausts for 1.1L mk1

I've fixed the exhaust on my mk1 golf a few times now and it keeps going bad in different places so thinking on getting a full new exhaust,  I'm looking for reccomendations on something that will be an upgrade but nothing too loud either, what have yous done; 4,2,1 manifold? Stainless systems? I'm gonna be keeping the car bud also don't want to spend a fortune, any brands or kits out there that may do the job

You can then get any Gti exahust and connect the two using a flexi section  

I picked up a piper system with centre silencer and it's mellow but with a nice sound.
