Overall it looks in good shape.
The issues you've listed are not insurmountable which is good news.
Now if I were you I would prioritise that list but starting with the welding that needs done on the door hinge and elsewhere.
Remember, there's always more rust than what you see on the outside.
When it comes to welding it's an art.
Please don't fall for some bloke down the road who has one and has welded two bits of angle iron together.
This is specialised work and that could be in a difficult spot (excuse there pun) to get at and do properly!
Last thing, you've got an excellent base for a really nice Mk1.
So don't be rushed or in any belting hurry to do these things and if your not sure just ask away!
Remember mistakes and we all do them cost.

Welcome to the club, lovely car looks a beast :-)
Bet the insurance love you at 21 years old with those mod's!
The niggles are all part of Mk1 ownership and feeling good you sorted them whilst in your ownership.
I look forward to updates on your thread and look up "stormforce" car covers I think it is, I think they do a Mk1 specific one, and a few people on here have rated them pretty good,
Cheers

I would laso change the wheels - Not my cup of tea. Other than that, I wouldn't change much at all - it is very nice!
The seats are stunning.
For someone who doesn't know how to weild a spanner though, you may have bought yourself a very expensive toy.

Another thing I've noticed is the door check strap looks like it's been welded to the outside of the 'A' pillar, it should go through to the inside and attach to a bracket, I've done that repair on mine.
Do you know if those seats were done by a guy in Stockton? I'm looking to get mine done the same.
Anyway, I'm just up the road in Washington.

Aaaand then 2 days later my fuel pump went. I'm not sure whether the filler neck or fuel tank is rusting and something has managed to slip into the pump (I have no fuel filter atm) or its just gone by use. I'm in two minds whether to replace the pump, and relocate it under the fuel tank somewhere. I'm thinking that when they cars turned off the fuel will drain by gravity back to the tank, so its not primed when I try to start it back up and that has something to do with it breaking. The car actually starts if someone shakes it for 20 seconds while I start the car, but then only lasts 10 or so seconds. Any ideas?

I'll look into that. Thankyou.
Regarding the seats, I'm sorry I have no idea but I will find out for you! I know they were done local.

not sure what the fuel pump setup is but looks like a kjet type bosch pump in the bay.
is there another lift pump? as if they run dry it can ruin a pump quickly. it will make alot of noise if there is air in the pump so you can normally tell.
if no lift pump i would be inclined to fit it in the standard gti position under the car in its rubber mount, it should be quieter there too.
also it looks like rubber fuel hoses are fitted which are no good for high pressure fuel lines.
a fuel filter is essential i wouldnt drive it at all without one. i would fit one where the fuel pump is now
