The Start!
Hello everyone,
I bought my 1983 Gti about a year ago and enjoyed driving it around standard but always had the intention of going 20v. I got myself a aum engine and 02j gearbox with the full engine and interior harness. Will be going oem ecu with this one.
Here are a few pictures when I got the car.
Then I started to strip the car down to get a better idea of what needs doing at the bodyshop. A few rusty areas but nothing major.

Hello Everyone,
Been very busy since I started this and haven't had the time to show you what's happening with the build.
Got some new parts mocked up before it went to the body shop.

Now the car has gone to get repaired and painted I started on the engine rebuild.
The Plan is to clean it all up and remove all the emissions cr*p and add a few extras. once I stripped it down I decided to put new pistons in due to having a crack in two of them! Also the valve guides in the cylinder head were shot and so once down to bare block I sent it off to be blasted, cleaned/dipped and machined.

great work so far bud, that shifter is nice looking bit of kit, did you make the DBW pedal bracket yourself?
also - strange question, any idea what bonnet lifters you have? i bought some but they requre the wing being drilled and i'm not doing that.

it's a DBW pedal from mk4 golf etc with some sort of custom bracket to mount it

Thanks for the comments everyone
I had the hydro clutch pedal box made up by crazy quiffs with the bracket for the dbw. The pedal was from a mk4 golf 1.8t where I got the engine and box from.
And I think the bonnet lifters are jom ones and they come with either threaded or self tap fittings for the wings. I found the self tap ones rubbish and ended up using large washers with the threaded fittings, even then I found them bending the wing so got the bodyshop to plate it under the wing to give it some strength. If I have anymore problems im going back to the old prop.
Picture update coming soon!

Watching this to see how you progress, debating a 1.8t for mine, but its a fair way off yet!
Those crazy quiff pedal boxes are not cheap, but look really well made

Got a CQ hydro one on mine. Much better than cable IMO.
Loving that shifter matey. How much did that set you back?

Any update to this fella, looks cracking? Where do get all of the new bolts for the ancillaries and other parts? (excluding internals)
