Yup indeed they are Andy. Well spotted. Seeing as you're the only one to comment you win the prize. Come see me at the AGM and I'll buy you a pint.

They could do with re-covering really. I have got a box full of leather from Bentley (stuff that didn't meet the grade for their use). It's a very dark brown though. I'd have to do everything again. Maybe next winter when I've fixed Clives leaky nature!

To fix them I chopped up the old golf seats and then set about with the angle grinder. A bit of smoothing and paint, plus the addition of sections of metal angle fence posts et voila

Bit of trimming to be done on the fixings but deffo better than the stained, mouldy grey cloth that was in there before!

Cheers mate, I like them.

I'm thinking I'm going to wrap the frames in balck vinyl with just a little bit of padding in there too. Should help tie it together a bit better.

Watch this space

I said pint but if you're more of a 'white wine spritzer' kinda fellow I'll spring for one of those instead

Anyway

So some lovely stuff arrived from Mr Funk

Mrs Borednow had been complaining about some weird noises and the lights were 'a bit dim'.

Opened up the bonnet to change over the alternator tensioner as I know it's rusty and a bit rubbish and was greeted not only with what I was expecting  but the air inlet plastic rubbish had decided it wanted to be closer to the tarmac and play with it's rubber friends!

Yup that's it poking out the side of the aux belt. Hmmm. Little scamp!
So I told him off and put him back where belongs. Adding copious amounts of 'Borednow's Patented Stay Where You Should' (Duct tape)

And on with the intended job.

Nasty rusty un-helpful piece

and replaced with a new shiny powdercoated yummy piece. Complete with stainless hex cap bolt.

Nice. just the rest of the bay to do now!

It's actually not to bad. Just surface rust on components more that anything. A bit of tidying of cables, wires a bit of paint and it should start to look better.

BTW my lower pulleys for the aux belt appear to be slightly off-set from one another. I take this isn't supposed to be the case?

Looks like I'm gonna need a new water pump soon! Oh joyfullness.

After replacing the alternator bracket and noticing that the water pump pulley seemed to be a bit 'off centre' and that the engine bay was generally a bit unloved. I've also not done anything under the bonnet at all in the last erm, well actually ever  O_o  Eek.

So full service ensued along with water pump, cam belt, cam belt tensioner, aux belt, all new filters, new fluids etc etc.
While I had the engine drained of everything I thought it'd also be a good time to do a bit of tidying too.
As you can see the bay is a bit unloved, rusty, and everything is either tired, broken or held together with bits of string and tape. Not great really.

So off came the radiator and associated hoses (I'm not a fan of the clip type, they are just a pain to remove when they've been on for so long and never released, busted knuckles and bleeding fingers ensued.) So these all got replaced with new stainless hose clamps.

Bit of cleaning and painting

The whole block was then given a good pressure wash and a bit of painting of stuff I could get to on the block and surrounding bits and bobs.
Rocker cover also cam off for a re-paint and the carb got a bit of clean out as well

A nice new shiny fuel filter installed along with new hose. While I was at it and had some decent access an up rated headlight loom was installed along with some cross hair head lamps.

Then all put back together.

Next on the list is the replacement of all the front bushes with Super-Pro versions, new bottom joints and up rated steering rack bushes. This'll be followed with some new torsion bars for the front end. And that should see the chassis sorted…….well hopefully! ;)

Oh gutted on the oil leak - where from exactly??

Good work on the bay though, that looks so much better now. With you on those hose clips - I hate them and just had bad experience with mine - couldn't get one off for almost an hour!

I've got Eibach ARB's on my Sportline and the car does seem really taught FYI

Yup found the oil leak.

It went for its mot on Wednesday.  And passed  :o

Couple of advisories. 1 rust to underside of cills.
2 lights are left hand drive not right
3 oil leak.

The garage put some tape on the lights to fix the beams so it passed on that

He also found that the rocker cover was missing the seal from the end nearest the belts. Looks like when I put the rocker cover back pon ot must have fallen off
It was in the engine bay O_o

So just got to do it again.  Erm properly this time

One problem sorted so only a million more to do

Cheers mucker

Yup good chaps they are.

They had to fail it first though then did it for me.

Nick, the tester also showed me how to get the bulbs to turn to make it comply.

In other news the Derby also passed yesterday.  So a good week all in all.

Blimey! Nearly a year since the last update.

Unfortunately Lady Borednow took clive to work one day in the summer and some kind person decided to drive into the back corner of clive.

This kinda annoyed me to say the least and clive went into hibernation.

Then my passat broke and clive got used for running me around at the weekends after I emptied all the water out of the footwells.

So I suppose I'd better soend some time sorting him out again.

Wish me luck!
