Small update… after replacing the gear gaitor and handbrake leaver and plastic cover in leather I ordered a new gear knob… problem was it was a very dark black leather and stood out like a soar thumb against the other parts, so after trying 3 different gear knobs all which looked wrong (all very dark black and some looked cheap despite costing £38) I decided to stripped my old gear knob down to the plastic shell and re-covered it in matching leather to the other parts so it now looks like a complete matching set…. really happy with the results but was a pig of a job!! Also installed an electic aerial, wasnt that bad a job with an extra pair of hands from my dad. Took about 1 hour. Went with the one recomended on here rather than the cheap ebay jobs. Makes a big differance to car not having an ugly aerial up all the time… and is cool having it go up and down 20180930_171251.jpg

Sorry missed your post its this stuff. Double layer it in footwell and its perfect thickness to original so will stop new carpet pulling at the doors. Can be laid single thickness against firewall. Going to do in boot and under back seats as well given its soundproofing capabilitys

So today I did the 9 inch brake upgrade as per the sticky on this forum as I wasnt happy with the brakes on the golf there was a bit too much peddle travel and lack of confidence for my liking…. anyway all went well considering the pain in the a@ e bolts to get to and the biggest headache the clevis pin clip. Luckily had my dad on hand to help so extra hands and experiance was helpful. Dont know the outcome yet as car isnt driving as I have no interior and other bits to do but excited to see what dofderance it makes given the comments I have heard about it.

Only slight hikup is I actually already had a 8 inch servo (i thought there was only 7 and 9 until I got part number) but im sure the exrta inch plus the fact the master cylinder is now 22mm rather than 20mm should still add benefit. Hope so was a 5hr job!!

Quick question the rear brake lines had the below 'thingys' on them (see pics right hand side of MC). Is this to stop the rears locking up. I put everything back together how it came off so assume all is well and I kept the diagonal front/rears splits, just not seen these before on a car.

I think it looks a tidy job luckily i didnt have to mess with brake lines like many others who have done this mod been a newer car had the light switch on the brake pedal

Found out what they are called now 'check valves'to stop rears locking up when heavy braking. Glad I thought to put them back on now :-)

Probably a good idea to have them on but I don't have any on my tin top and I have discs on the rear. Hasn't locked up on me yet  O_o

Nice work. Hope it feels better for you.

Night and day.

I actually think if my car was auto I would crashed it the day I bought it on the way home.

Pedal actually went to the floor before but there was quite a scary advisory on the MOT about the rear brakes anyway.

I replaced everything at the rear end, plus new pads and disks, braided hoses and all new copper lines as well so there was quite a few elements in the equation but the pedal feel was so much better with far less travel

Weekend job. I replaced rocker cover with new rubber gasket and also going to do the sump gasket. No major leaks but they were the old cork type so though while I had the cover off to paint best to upgrade. Double nut method on the threads to get them out worked a treat. 20181027_222503.jpg

Latest purchase. Given I have all the interior stripped out of the car for a full clean and im replacing a lot of the tired looking parts, window winders and the sagged arm rest ect…. I thought I would take a look at the speakers well as you can see pics speak for themself. So im dropping in some 'gold loud speaker' wire from headunit to each speaker to make sure I get the most out of these beauties. Heard them in the audio shop I got them from and after googling and seeing the fantastic reviews purchased them there and then as they blew me away for the size. Very high quality speaker nice base and trebble with clear tone… as good as it gets with out going the amp route (which im not given im not 17!! Lol!!) Not cheap but will cut out some of the road noise so well worth it haha.

Few little jobs done today.

1. Drivers door wouldnt stay open. As I had the door card off thought I would investigate why… well pic speaks for itself. All sorted now with some new bolts/washers and nuts.
2. Air box pipe looked worse for wear. Had split right down middle so looking for a suitable replacement now. FIXED WITH SOME 63MM DOUBLE LAYERED HOSE IN TO EXISTING HOUSINGS
3. Drivers window rattled when shut. Looks like im missing half the window guide rubber thats sits inside door pannel. So emailed few vw suppliers to see if they have a suitable replacement. FIXED GOT SOME FROM VW CLASSICS
4. I also had a bit of play in accelerator peddle where the cable connects so added 2 rubber washers and done the job perfect!!
5. New washer jet hose pipe as other had gone orange lol!!!

Little jobs but they get all the niggles sorted and make it more pleasing to own.

Thanks pal just ordered some H&R cup suspension today so looking forward to getting that on.

So today consisted of fitting the H&R cup kit…. It was that bad I dont really want to talk about it… looked an easy job but….between the rusted on bolts that took me ages to crack off with a looooong bar, to the new bump stops that were a nightmare to seat in the dust covers… to the rear suspension and fighting with it to get it in place so I could get the bolt through.
Anyway I like to think I did a thorough job. I replaced all nuts and bolts with 10.5 high tensile ones, new top mounts at the front, new rubber kit to the rear and I painted the strut housing and the suspension top caps with some hammerite under body sealant to protect them for the future. While that was drying I cleaned all the wheel arches out!! Not driven the car as of yet but the stance is just right  and despite it been a 25-40mm lowering kit thankfully its lifted the rear slightly as mine was sat really low before… after removing the suspension I know why some clown hadnt fit half of the parts needed in the rubber bushing kit so it had basically just squashed everything in the rear. Will get some pics up of stance when weather is better but pics of kit below.
