AL's "Mini Build" *04/12 - 6 months later...*

Great to see this coming alive again! Remember the build thread way at the start and the mag feature!

Good work!

Hows the seats looking?

Working on the base right now actually. Not going quite as well as the back… The bolsters and base cushion foams are not in great shape. Might have to "repair" these too, as not paying the £30 - £40 per cushion prices that you see on Ebay!

Should have some more pics by the end of the weekend…

Cheers Carbs… I stepped away from it all for a while, though enjoying being back!

OK - As promised, an update on the seats…

The seat cushion is now done.
Had to do a bit of a bodge repair using gaffer tape as the foam was splitting in areas where is sits against the frame. Seems good now though!

Also managed to get the side bolsters done for the base too, so the base is almost complete:

And just to see how it all looked together…

The lower bolsters look a bit puckered, but hey - this  is a first attempt! I hope you agree that they look quite good and are more than acceptable for anything other than a concourse/show'n'shine car.

I am well chuffed!

Just got to do the sliding support now an then tidy up some of the edges where material should be glued/clipped to the frame.

Me too!

Gotta make the other one up now though. That will be another 2 to 3 weeks…
Then I got to finish fitting the 6N dash…
Then I have to make up some matching door cards front and rear…

Should be done by next summer!

Finished the thigh support last night, which pretty much finishes the seat.
Just got a few loose ends which are mostly out of sight to glue into position!

Not a big update…

Put the seat in the car yesterday and took the other one out.

Also decided to clean up a set of old P-Slots I have knocking around. Anyone see (or own?) the red Mk1 that was on Ebay Classifieds fairly recently with the gloss Black Pirellis with Mars red P's? I really liked that, so am going to do a diy refurb. Tyres can then get swapped onto those so I can get the alley cats done properly.

Couple of pics from today:

Does anyone else pile up parts on their pride and joy?  :redfaced:

Not a great shot, but when they are both in with the dash, I'll get the wide angle lens out!

Hung the wings loosly back on the front end as tired of seeing them piled on top

Wheels didn't look too clever, but after rubbing one down and priming, it isn't so bad

(Primer is still wet, hence the gloss look!)

Not much progress over the last couple of weeks.

I have started the other seat and I have done a bit of painting on the Pirelli I was cleaning up.
Not come out quite as well as I had hoped - The black paint seems to have marked where I applied the masking tape around the P's before doing the red.
I'm going to get some cutting polish and see if I can improve the look before giving it a couple of coats of laquer…

And a quick Photoshop mock-up of how the car might look:

Mk1 Golf Photoshop Mock Up by www.pix-al.co.uk, on Flickr

Basically, I'm looking to lose the chrome, but keeping the small bumpers.

Would it be a crime to pain the chromies black…  :dontknow:
I think I might have an idea that will work as an alternative.

Cheers Brucieboy!

OEM+ is kind of where I want to go with it, with the seat re-trim I'm doing as well.

and vinyl is what I was thinking - have yourself a cigar!
Sticky backed plastic sheet is dead cheap these days, so I could apply that and be able to remove it fairly easily if I change my mind down the road.
I think I'll give it a go and see how it comes out, but I have lots of other jobs to do first!

LOL - Cheers…

Regarding your exhaust - I am honestly shocked! The rest of your build has been awesome!
But hey - Your not going to be able to see it anyway, so it doesn't really matter!
