The fuse issue must be v.frustrating. You would expect newer engine = more reliable!
I bet you'll be carrying spare fuse from now on?!

First off ! we went to gti international and thought i'd take my car up the strip after being in the show & shine. I did my first run and the clutch slipped all the way up and smelt really bad afterwards so did a 16 something as i let off towards the end. I risked it and went for a second run but eased it off the line this time. Next thing i know my front left airbag inflated to double the psi and threw me to the right towards the barrier . I wasn't having a good day so decided to call it quits !!
After the second run something didn't sound right and when i popped the bonnet I found that one of the vacuum pipes on the dv valve had sheared in half. The engine had rocked forward and sheared it on the edge of the engine cover, it was a quick fix as i was using vacuum hose for my washer jet so managed to use that. I later found out that the drivers side engine mount rubber had split on the lower section.
I looked more into the clutch slip problem then when i got back as it shouldn't have happened as the clutch is an uprated sachs with pressure plate and is good for 400nm. I took it to the garage to have a quick look and said that everything was how it should have been underneath and to take it back in to get the box off after the agm.
So the agm was upon us ! and as I was driving through stratford I went down quite a bumpy road and as i went to change into 2nd gear it wouldn't !! I managed to get it into the hotel car park that was about 50 yards away and left it there until i could get it to the show. Somebody came to my rescue at the show that had a recovery van and managed to get me there.
Mr Booth then kindly had a look and found that there was a leak from the pipe that ran through the bulkhead from the reservoir. The hole on the bulkhead didn't have a grommet around it so we presumed that it had split and was letting a bit of air in which meant that if i kept my clutch down on the pedal it would eventually grab the clutch and keep me moving.
Next day I managed to get the car into the show & shine section and came away with a top 5 modified trophy I also took the risk of driving it home with the clutch the way it was and managed to get it back without any problem !
Once it was back home and in the garage I set about changing the reservoir hose. I changed it within about 15 minutes and bled the clutch. After bleeding it the clutch was still doing the same thing I then turned to the slave cylinder and found that an aftermarket part had been used that didn't go through the hole on the gearbox properly as it was too tight and and had rubbed and split. This made it clear why I had the clutch slip up the strip now !!
With this all in mind I decided that I wanted to run a six speed box rather than the 5 speed 02a and get the bay resprayed due to the overspray in it from the first painter. I am also going to strengthen the engine mounts and use either the Revo tfsi mounts or the Black forrest ones, so i'm going to have to mount them onto the chassis legs which means a bit of welding and fabrication over the next few months

I've not had too much time on the car over the past few weeks as I've been pretty busy, but the plan is to get it into paint for mid March and back on the road by mid May.
I've unearthed a few rust spots from under the underseal but nothing too major ! And today I created a brace for the wishbones so I'm able to move the car around while the suspension is off.
I recently sold my BBS RM's 😞 to fund my new wheels. I have found some pretty rare HTN AC1's in 13" form which I have been after for a while, so I'll be stepping these up to 15" and having them fully polished. I'm hoping I can crack on now and start to get a bit more done !!

Hi mate great build thread! Just read from start to finish. Makes it all the more sweeter having all these set backs when your sat behind the wheel and everything works as it should. Noticed you had your bonnet catch chromed, can you remember where you had it done?
Had the chrome work done at a place called acf howells in Walsall buddy. There work is spot on !!
