Story goes I had a cabby which burnt on the way to elsecar megameet this year after the steering rack set fire to the dash from the 16v 4 branch
So, after a bit of searching found a local tin top gti with good history and a good runner so snapped the guys hand off for it, picked it up like this,
Wasn't happy with the 13" wheels or the 40/60 springs so swapped the running gear from my cabby I was breaking at this point, mornings work saw this,
Took the rear disc conversion off my cabby, and the 16v m/c, and a Short days work resulted in a wise upgrade
And next removed from the cabby, was the murder weapon, the 16v lump, wasn't afraid to go again but took the manifold to the drawing board!
This is the lump prior to the cabby,
But was adiment to go injection this time so got hold of a 50mm inlet, wur, metering head, painted it Lhasa.
Now the reg plate placement was bugging me, and the rear lights, and the front indicators, got a new bumper, a bloke close by have me back lights for free! And got indicator lenses,
Before,
After
No pics of rears before but they were black, changed.
Next was the engine swap, in the day I got block out, hubs swapped over for 100mm driveshafts, engine in, exhaust on, injection side built up, not bad!
Fire proofing, aluminium tape on uj, and a steel plate, heatwrap, and a solder mate between mani and plate.
And engine in
And also had alloys colour coded and banged them on day after aswell as smaller splitter so I wasn't scraping floor allll the time
Found some omp seats very cheap so snapped them up, reclining leather buckets , was in a 6n so had to cut the omp subframe up and reweld!
Now the injection was playing up massively, never getting 4cylinders, 3x metering heads later and all duff! Drove the car to Vw festival though and tried a fourth whilst on show
Got home, bye bye kjet, carbs are going back on!
Now I didn't take any pictures after, but it runs on 4 now!
On the way to gti festival I lost the gear linkage on m1, had 3rd and 4th after motorway, not cool, so with the daft ratios in mind on 020 box, picked up a g60 box for it. It is now currently off the road now awaiting some work ready for next year, plans are:
New fuel tank
Megajolt ignition
02a mounts and mk4 shifter tower
Strip underneath and epoxyastic it all
Board back of car (seat/boot area)
Paint block and gearbox again
Tidy up engine bay a bit.
Comments and criticism welcome
Cheers.

Gordan, I most certainly do! The Maiden voyage of this when I first swapped engine was a scary one to say the least!

I have the same 16v set up in my cabby but with dellorto carbs.
Mine was from dub power though….

Same thing as the storm dev ones… I think? pics are certainly the same…
Storm Developments - vehicle servicing, engine conversions, g-lader repairs, vehicle tuning, mot, reading, berkshire
I keep a small extinguisher in the glovey… just to make sure. Never had a problem though, the closest part isn't the steering boot. Sad news, best of luck with the newun'

Good to see you've got another though. And sticking with the 16v, credit to you.
Oh let me know if you still wanna come up to look at the panel.

Thing is, now il never overlook it and hope people seeing how I did it and what happened when I didn't take precautions.
I sound boring each time a 16v conversion comes up and I mention it, I get snuffed lol, chipster listened to me and put time in to up the protection.

The steering boot is the issue as it melted and lit my dash/loom up which then escalated. If in doubt either cover the boot with something, pm lagger for ideas on blankets, or cut it off completely and run that risk, if seen its an mot failure, but only if seen.
