If it's old and faded it might not make any difference, plus you don't know what others have used on it previously to clean it with or how old it really is.

I went out to a hood job on Sunday and had to fettle that. It was shockingly fitted with seals wrong way round, fitted to low on one side the seal was trapped in the frame, the rear cable showing, front corners not fitted properly, baggy bits on the rear quarter side. Can't do anything about that. The material has stretched now, plus the stitching was turning white.
That hood was only 2-3 years old.
