Mk1 Cabriolet nearby?

Post

Hi all. Just retired from teaching (after 37 years!!!) and now ready to buy the classic I've dreamed of. Nothing too big or fancy - just something to enjoy myself in. Having had good look on Internet at what my choices are I do like look of the  Mk1 cabriolet. Took myself off to Tatton yesterday in the hope of seeing one at the car show but no joy. Does anyone in Runcorn/Warrington area have one I could come and have little look at just to be sure before I go buying. Also can anyone advise what sort of insurance price I would be paying?
Many thanks for help.
PS brilliant website - I could spend hours on here - and have already!

Hey Jan,

Welcome to the forum!

There's quite a few of us in the North West, if you head to the homepage, and on the top left choose the region 'north west' it will open that area of the forum for you, we do monthly meets, a good few cabriolets!

Failing that you can come have a look at mine, I'm in central Manchester but work by the airport?

There's also a great buying guide here:

Buying a Cabriolet - The Mk1 Golf Owners Club

Insurance wise you can put them on a classic policy, and depending your circumstances / area you live / quality of the car, modifications etc, somewhere between £150-£500 a year

And as you're a paid member you get a decent discount with our insurance partners

Happy hunting!

Thanks Si
I'll see if anyone nearer replies but the airport is only 20 mins up motorway for me so that would be ok.
Exciting times for me!!!:)

Hi mate. I have a MK1 white cabby. Had it for 2 years and spent some money on it. Its lovely looking however I was going to get a professional spray job. I know a guy whos just sprayed an e type jag. His work is awesome and he quoted me £1500 for a full respray and booked me in for November as he is so busy. Anyway, I have decided I would like a hard top as I want to do a rally theme on it. If I spray the car, I may not get my money back. Its a great little car and is a 1.6cc carb engine. I have not actually put it up for sale as was going to keep until summer next year. I pay only £89 insurance. 3000 miles a year with an agreed value of £3000. I am looking for £2600. It has a new roof. MOT and tax . Great original interior. It is an early A Reg. Original code engine. Only thing not original is the clipper kit. I really like it but can be easy to remove when getting her sprayed. No rust on the car. Solid example.
