Hi all,

I used to be a member a few years back, I've had my S2 GTI for a good few years, drove it for a while then took it off the road for a resto, life, divorce and subsequent rebuilding of life took me away from the resto for a good few years, but now my thoughts have started turning back to the car and finishing what I started a few years ago

… just glad I managed to hold on to the car, it was touch and go for a while

Welcome back mate, just remind us a little more about your car and a few photos will help!  :)

Thanks :thumbs:It's a 1983 1.8 8v S2 with light modifications

I'm currently doing a resto on it

Work done so far:
New NOS front panel
2 new rear wheel arches

Lots and lots left to do

She looked like this before the resto started

Here's some snaps of my ownerships (2003-2005 I think), doing some rust repairs pre-dog hitting incident.   I do have the pictures from the original advert where I bought it in 2003 somewhere…

Hairyarse

Well I'd love to say I'm going full speed ahead with the resto, but sadly not  :(

Firstly, I have my garage which I need to put a 10ft extension on the back of it to allow space for a workshop, so I can make get the mk1 back from where I'm storing him and back to somewhere where I can do some work.

Then it'll be a few hours a week as I have a young family and I travel with work a lot (14 away weeks this year)  :(

I have fortunatly managed to convince the boss that the Mk1 is worth cracking on with because the value of them is going up and up, so to answer your question, I hoping within the next 2-3 years I'll be back on the road… I wish it could be sooner  :'(

Once I start work on him again, I'll start a build topic, but there seems little point right now

That sounds pretty normal Mike, life tends to get in the way. Mine has been in bits for about 7-8 years now!!  :o

Yeah, I guess it's the same for most.

It's still frustrating though, especially when you see all the pics of shiney mk1s and I just want him to be back on the road and all sorted.

I'd rather take my time and do a nice job though
