New To The World Of MK1 Golfs

Hi all…

Gary Here from Deeping St James, Nr Peterborough… Currently in the market for a Mk1 Golf GTI Convertible. Bored of my Mk4 (Giving it to the Mrs). Looking for a project, but nothing too involved, Budget of £1000-£1250, so would like a runner but maybe minor body work and/or interior mods.

Have my eye on one on Ebay, so any little bits of advice on what to look out for greatly recieved!!

Looking forward to picking all your brains in the near future.

Cheers all

Gaz

Hey Gaz, welcome

I'm just next to Stamford so not a million miles away, let me know if you need help with owt ;)

Good luck with the search, MK1's are good to get in to. We have a Lincolnshire meet going regular now. Facebook page is here - Log into Facebook

All meets have been up Newark and Lincoln way so a little bit of a drive, but that's half the fun!

Good luck with the search, keep us posted ;)

Are you coming to the Annual Gathering this month?

Hi Andy!!

Yes all went very well thank you… I posted up some pictures about a week or so ago, you'll find them in the 'Newbies' section… Think I just called it 'My first Mk1 golf'.

A few bit n bobs need doing quite urgently, but one thats concerning me is the Oil warning light and buzzer come on very intermittently. She was recently fully serviced, I have just topped the oil up, but still comes on after about 5 miles once the engines warmed up. It will come on for 10 seconds, go off, come back on, then after a few times it stays on??? Shed any light on this one for me, or is it just the obvious process of elimination (switch first maybe???)

Also Andy, this car surprisingly hasn't got an oil pressure gauge (Has a voltage gauge and a Vacuum performance gauge though). A client of mine (Mk1 enthusiast too), has kindly offered me a gauge. Easy job to fit one???

Thank you mate, the first of many questions

Ah yes I had seen your other thread, my memory is pants!! lol

Ref the buzzer, do a search on the forum, it's a common problem and you should find an old thread or two with what to check.

Ref oil pressure gauge, yep never fitted as standard. Shouldn't be too hard to fit - you'll need the sender as well as the gauge. Try a search on this one too as I seem to recall a 'how-to' thread on how to fit extra gauges.

Oh and next Lincs meet is this Sunday
