magic diesel cube :D

Hi everyone!

This is my mk1 1.6 diesel. I know, it looks like bucket of nails :Daaand i still don't know what should i do with engine.. let him stay diesel or swap it on abf. also have an idea about 1z (tdi). guys, help me decide, please. really don't know. boring "stock" diesel or fun with "carbs"? :)but main conception is oldtimer without "shaving" under hood.

colour will be same - LB5A "Pargas blau". love it. also i don't like chrome. so will be black mirrors, plastic trims and without that porn-chrome fuel cap :)) sorry, if you like it, this is just my opinion, don't wanna be like a pimp with a tons of chrome) i like short metal bumpers, but it's impossible with second version. and i don't want change tail lights.

wheels are mk3 r15 "Imola" from Canada. steering - Peo, original knob, Blaupunkt sm21 radio. maybe will go on bbs rs in future, but not now, ofc. unfortunately, i don't have a lot of free time like it was previously, because i changed location of work and my garage is far away from me now… around 800 km :Dbut i will find another one closer and then will continue this insane anyway. rebuild or die! heh :Dbtw, my name is Sergei, i'm from Russia. 25 y.o., system administrator.
and i honestly may say that my inspiration is on last photo. this is it! apogey of perfection. i think, that all of you know this mk1.
few photos of my diesel "truck" right below.
oh, tomato! stone! tomato! rotten egg?! missed! again! hehehe :Dp.s.: excuse me for low level of english language. you know, Russia, Russia, burning kasha! :Dand no, i don't have bear on my rear seat :D mk1magic-cube.jpg 18052013968.jpg 0crd2HT6H628HkL95IZtvTs4nG50K8.jpg

just noticed your Russian, how cold do you get it where you are? if its like the north pole a petrol engine will be better than a diesel,
apart from that,go any diesel I got a AAZ its fantastic, and just built a PD tdi another excellent engine

They can be hard to start when it's cold, think they're fine once running though. I guess with diesel being an oil its less viscous in freezing temperatures.

Welcome to the club Sergei, your mk1 looks cool.
I've got a 1.6D in my VW T25 and it's slooooow. I'm swapping it for a 1.9 TD AAZ engine which goes really well. They're getting older and harder to find here though so TDi's a better option.

Easiest swap is a 1.9D (engine code 1Y) or go 1.6TD or 1.9TD (AAZ) or TDi (there's loads of options for TDi).

They're all better than a standard 1.6D!

yes, i thought about 1Z, that's why i asked. and it's easy to get here. much more easier than AAF. choosing between tdi 1Z \ benzin ABF with weber-carburetors (i have a possibility to buy one complete right now) or restore original mk1 1.6 diesel engine.

decided, that if i will do AAF or 1Z conversion, then i'll buy new head of block in complete condition. finded on german online-shops, that heads cost around 600 euro + delivery. ofc, it looks not so cheap, but i think, that it's okay for almost half of new engine :Dbtw, do you know better ways? this one is best, i guess. don't need to do a lot of work in hope that it will work perfect. and price will be same. am i right or not? hah, i should start a new topic :)and also maybe i will prefer AAF, like you offer, guys. because i like R13 wheels and don't wanna stay without them. AAF require 239 + drums. 1Z requiremenrs are 256 front + drums or 226 discs at rear. it mean, R14 wheels :(

i live in Moscow and St.-Petersburg. -20 atm, but it's 2-3 weeks in year. regular winter temperature is -12 -14. +25 +27 in summer time. and rains, rains, rains… however white nights may change this city in better way for a while :)here are more wet than cold :D
