Well at present I need to sort the issues with oils burning.Today's job is do compression test from there it's either engine out or head off.
Problem is I have a habit of putting silly engines in cars when the old engine is out so who knows what will happen.
This was the last thing I took the engine out off.

Welcome to the site. Love the mini I use to have an Ex works rally mini many years ago, regretted selling it. I saw it at the NEC classic a few years nearly fell though the floor when told how much it was worth £27000  :ocf_emoticons__BangHead:Anyway good luck with the engine

I've done a compression test and found the following.
No 1 (Nearest cam belt ) 200psi
no2 205 psi
no3 203 psi
no4 198 psi.
All done when engine was up to running temperature and with all plugs removed and throttle open.
I did try and put a little bit of oil down the plug holes just to see if it increased but it just went of the scale on the compression tester so I presume it must me hydraulic locking it with oil in.?
Do the readings sound about right for a 1.8 Gti with 130,000 miles on.
Does it point towards valve stem oil seals.
Cheers Pete

Hi
Can anyone tell me if the Haynes manual 0726 (brown one) covers the 1800cc dx engine with hydraulic tappets.
Local motor factors have one but wont open it to check
Thanks Pete
