Just got my first golf,GREEEEAT stuff.

Hello,

Have just purchased a Golf mk1 convert gti, have always wanted one but always had a sensible car,but no more this is so much fun. There is so much you can do to these puppies, only trouble is im a clutz with a spanner

I have had a few `Moments` with the Brakes. Is there any one near Southampton(within 40 miles)  that could do the GM brake upgrade on it as im a bit new with this sort of thing.

Would be great if someone could help, have read the posts regarding the conversion but am unsure where and what parts to ask for let alone doing it.

Lov`in the gti

HAPPY BIRTHDAY for Friday Golfgal

Thanks! although i perhaps should have pointed out its my birthday next tues. lol. yea its leaking brake fluid. Poss from rear cylinder….but then again im no brake expert so god knows    :dontknow:

If its leaking fluid from the rear cylinder it basically means every time you apply brakes they will not work to their full extent only on three wheels and it will be pushing fluid out inside the drum hence wet brake shoes very little stopping power, also you will eventually lose your brake fluid and be pumping air through system in other words you will put your brakes on and the pedal will hit the floor and your car will not stop, you really need to get this done asap for your own safety and safety of others.

Hope this enlightens you a little not meaning to scare you it may not be a major leak but this is a worse case senario.

well, i am in fact, a little more prepared than u may think
iv already priced up all the brake parts on trade, and have it booked in the garage next door to my work on friday. a new cylinder is only a fiver cos its been made an obsolete line at work and reduced down….everything else, discs, pads, etc i can get for a few quid on trade at work….they dont call me mrs organised golfgal for nowt u know!!  :P

  yeh i got it, i read a thread on here somewhere about another cabby having a leak, there are some drain holes on the bodywork one may be blocked, when youopen the door there is one on the door at bottom looks like half a 50p piece one either side on the sill at the rear just a hole and one either side on the side sill have a poke around in these with a solid bit of wire it may be the cause if not wait till dry day get one of your mates to sit in the car and  spray hose pipe on it in small areas at a time see whether they can locate it inside.

Lets hope its not raining tomorrow afternoon then

Get a pic of yourself up in the chat forum under what do you look like, there is one of me somewhere in there, brilliant post cause you can put a face to a name.

i think i know where the leak is….its on the drivers side and the waters comin in between the door and hood i think. doesnt look like a drain hole…could be….i'll investigate….although i think its just cos the hood is in a poor condition      mite have to bodge summat together til i get a new hood….and hope it doesnt rain too much!  :D
