Fairly new to the world of Vdubs, and I bought a caddy
Im 17 and been driving a few months. I knew I wanted an old VW but I chose a mk1 caddy due to the cheaper insurance and didnt fancy taxiing all my friends around in a 5 seater. Due to the caddy being a commercial vehicle I was able to insure a caddy sport with a 1.8 GTI engine in it for a decent price
I bought it as a project so I could get to college everyday but still be able to work on it and learn as I go
It looked like this when i got it..
Since I have done a range of stuff. The bodywork is much better now and Ive replaced both front wings, fitted a new rear window, new bonnet, removed the body kit temporarily, head unit and sound system, loads of small mods to the interior, de-handled doors with solenoid door poppers, fresh MOT, full stainless custom exhaust as well as the bbs wheels seen on the front in this pic..
since owning it Ive done a few bits to the engine including service, new radiator, coolant pump, K&N filter etc but I have a lot to learn!
Is there anyone around my area (Billingshurst, West Sussex)? I would love to come to some of the car meets this summer if Im welcome

It's a Caddy Sport which came with the 1.8i engine so should have that on the logbook.

From want I can remember the Caddy Sport was a specal around 1992 which came in white with a body kit, grey & red side stripe sticker, GTI engine, MK2 GTI seats & mk2 GTI bottle top alloys. Also think it was limited to 500.

Spot on
The sport engine is the same as the mk1 GTI but with a lower compression head so only 95BHP
mines not very original now though; something must of happened to the engine as its been replaced with a normal mk1 golf GTI engine and the clocks that came with it. The vinyls on the side have been removed and it was rolling mk1 tarantula alloys when I got it.
Im not fussed though, it means i dont feel as guilty about doing further modifications. I bought a sport because it was quick but with ok insurance. When I was on a provisional it was £1700 a year with Quinn Direct, but when I passed they refunded me about £350 Only down side is there are not many companies willing to insure a student with a modded 17yr old commercial vehicle

Thinking of going to view a mates but unsure of where they may be structurally rotten or mechanically rubbish. Any help would be great
