Cab dash

Hi.

Hope  it's okay to ask here.
I got a fine offer on a complete golf MK1 cabriolet dash.
My question is, Will it fit in a Normal MK1 hatchback/Caddy MK 1?
Anyone have knowledge about that?

Regards Hypermagic.

So long as they're both MK1 this should be a straight swap as far as I'm aware.

Okay. That was my thought to.
Then i talk with my brother, and he was not sure about the lower part, because cab has the big steelbar across  the the dash.

Are you sure that is plug and play?

I  have a dash from a cabby (Not fitted) and it looks absolutely identical, the only difference I can imagine is if you're fitting to an S1 Golf, not sure on that one though as mine is S2. The dash is dead straightforward to remove though so it'd not take much digging to take a look. The heater control facia panel may also look a little different but again dead simple to swap.

…….also, if you're getting it for a fair price you should easily be able to shift it on if it doesn't work.

The upper dash usually fits, but you also have to get the gauges, and bezels and switches and thing as there is the Entire Dash, and Dash cap only.

The Caveats that I have seen is the replacement or relocation of the lower knee bar area and the OEM MK1 Early Golfs didn't have the same bolt up areas for the newer style knee-bar.  While the Cabby has a 50-70 LBS metal under bar for the knee-bar that bolted to the "a" pillar that the Tin top didn't have originally for body flex (2 different plants building them as in Karmann/Wolfsburg).  You can make a bar to hold it, as the knee-bar pad separates from the re-enforcement bar by a few screws, and doesn't weigh that much.  Where a lower knee-bar brace can be created to accommodate it.

That and getting your older electrical to pe pinned correctly for the new style of gauge sets.  But if you can also get the harness off the car it came out of, then the connectors come apart and you can move your wires to the new locations easily, that is the best part about the newer style clusters, is that the connectors for the cluster separate and you can move the pins about very easily or replace them if needed.
