HOW TO Fit Suzuki Ignis Recaro Seats :))
Whilst mooching around ebay looking for some seats for my latest project i stumbled across a Suzuki ingis sport interior, no one had bid on it so i had a punt and brought the complete interior for the costly sum of £75.00, those who know me know that i am a transport manager so a route was planned and these were picked up by one of my drivers which meant zero postage/collection costs
the seats in my golf were a mess and covered in rubbish seats covers, heres one of the seats i had in next to ignis seat
after much head scratching i decided to strip original seats and remove what i needed to do this conversion
i then welded some steel bar onto the runners so i could removed what i needed but keep it all in shape and lined up correctly

the bits i needed from original seat
i then stripped ignis seat as much as i could and cut of its runners,
forgot to take a pic before i chopped away but heres what i had after wards, had to leave cussion on for now to keep the seats shape
i then placed the bits from mk1 frame onto ignis frame to see what else was needed
then after final trimming and cutting and bending it lined up as i wanted it
then it was just a case of welding it all up

:clap: i really like them tbh mate, do they sit quite high though on both frames?

this is the finished frame, looks a little bent at the front but this was to keep the shape of the original mk1 subframe
then obviously do the second seat and measure it all up so there the same height and position when refitted
ignis seat belt thing on the right and golf one on the left
golf seat belt thing bend and shaped so its the same fitting as the ignis one
bolted to the seats and cusions refitted

care was taken when cutting the ignis subframe so that the plastic side trim mounting points where still there
both seats reassembled and ready to be fitted back into my golf
and here it is the finished product in place and looking great if i do say so myself
just the back seats to takle now and recover them to match ..
the ignis sport rear seat is just plain black but it does have matching head rests so a bit of work to do on the back too …
hope this helps anyone thinking of doing the same type of conversion because this method would work with any seats

yeah they do thats why i trimmed everything i possibly could to get them as low as possible
there slightly lower than the originals now

the only thing i would be worried about is those buckles, in a crash the seats could come off the mountings and you would sail off thru the windscreen still buckled to the seat!
better bet is bolt them back onto to the seat legs same way as they were on the mk1 seats, then they are fixed to the floorpan rather than the seat frames as per original mk1

These are easily as well installed as original seats ! I would not compromise looks for my or my kids or anyone else in my passenger seats safety !!!!

ya but the difference is the recaro seats were originally bolted direct to the floor pan I assume? mk1 seats vw put the buckles on legs which sit inside the slider runners. they arnt really attached to the seat at all they're attached to the runner on the car (in a crash)
so if you did crash all the stress goes thru the legs, your welds, the seat pan, and finally the buckle. in a vw all the stress goes direct to the seat buckle so less chance of failure. the main thing though is if you look closely at the vw seat rail, it has 'teeth' which lock the buckle in the event of an impact to stop any chance of the seat sliding. on yours the only thing preventing this is the pin and bracket on the front!
whether it will fail or not I cant say as I'm no engineer, I'm just saying thats the only bit I would have a slight worry about
