agu mk1 wiring questions???

right found a set of mk 2 16v clocks in the shed and im hopeing that it has what i need but i have no idea what im looking for!
it looks like the sender is right next to where the speedo cable goes into the clocks?
ill grab the clocks from the car tonight and see if i can switch it over!

i remember trying these clocks in 1 of my other cars and the speedo read the wrong speed (there 140mph clocks which would b a bonus if they'll work! :punk: ), is this something i could fix with the correct speedo cable or is it a gearbox issue

not sure if the mk2 sender will fit the mk1 cluster but it is worth a try i guess! you may have to add a mk1 mfa plug on the back as if yours didnt have mfa i doubt plug was fitted. its the ribbon type connector round the back you'll see what i mean.

the speedo issue would have been down to the gearbox having the wrong gear in it most likely

right i brought the mk1s clock back home with me tonight to compare them to the mk2 1s i have.
the mk1 clocks do have a space for the vss and the same connection on the pcb so iv fitted the sensor in place on the mk1 clocks and connected it.
im hoping the other bits this sensor needs are already provided from clocks.
think im gona try and connect the signal wire to the pcb (theres 1 wire form the sensor that just ends) to see if that will work

you can see in the bottom pic where the wire from the sensor ends in the ribbon

yeah thats where the mk1 mfa plug housing connects into, since its non-mfa dash you dont have the connector plug unfortunatly. maybe ask if anyone has some trashed mk1 clocks? you'll need the mfa plug end from a mk1 dash loom as well

got the car running today! all seems good so far! i was just wandering if you could shed some light on the rev counter issue! i found these rev counter adapters on a site but im not sure which one if any would work

http://www.telematicagroup.co.uk/companies.php?supplier=US-07&manufacturer=MSD_Ignition&cat=MSD_10_Accessories&category=Accessories&sub_cat=MSD_916_TachAdapters&sub_category=Tach_Adapters&view=list

maybe 8910 or 8920??

thanks

8920 is what i have seen on other conversion threads being used for the rev counter.

good find on the price.

hello, the golfs i now up and running! but it stopped today when i moved it, turn out it ha blown the fuse on the on the fuel pump relay (15amp) and the relay was pretty warm!

my question is should i

use a larger amp relay, like a 30
use a separate extra relay?

i think i have the fuel pump, injectors and 1 other thing being supplied by the fuel pump relay

thanks

mk2/3 golf use a 20a fuse for the fuel pump, so give that a go :)

so turns out the rpm signal converter was from greece! works great and really simple to fit! recomended!
and a 33 ohm resistor inline brings the coolant gauge down to about where it should be!

been fitting a couple of things inside the car and i could do with an ignition live, wheres the best place to get this from?
i have used the stereo one before but its not there on my current golf!

just a few more bits then off to the dreaded mot. . .

after moving the car a couple of days ago, i went to do a few bits today and its now decided it doesnt want to start!  it did start a couple of times but i had to pump the pedal to make it run, but now its completely dead, its readin two fault codes which are for evap cant think what the other one was right now but im sure it wasnt important.
theres deffo fuel comin from the pump and its cranking, but im at a loss and starting to think i have broke some thing!

Any ideas!!!

right so the cars running again turns outa boost pipe had come loose which i over looked!

but its still not running right but i have a few fault codes now
injectors1,2,3 and 4
whastegate bypass regulator

these both go to the fuel pump relay pin 87
along with
mas air flow sensor
and o2 sensor go to here as well
but there is no fault for these two

could i have damaged the ecu?
would a fault code reader tell me this?
is there any way to check this yourself?

im at a total loss because it was running just fine before it was moved!

this is how things are wired into the car but im sure somethings wrong somewhere

+ its not got a standard fuel pump (think its a fse jobby) not sure if this makes any difference!
