16v swap breather thingy

Hi,

What shall I do with the breather thingy on the front of the engine? I'm using a 9a with mk1 airbox and metering head…

this might help

i had to drill a hole in the top part of the airbox and glue in the pipe from the mk2 airbox the rubber pipe also tees off to the air shroud on the underside of the inlet manifold

Thank you that pic is spot on. (btw what speedo cable did you use??)

Just thinking, the hose will want to go into the filter side of the airbox, as any oil will then be caught in the filter and not be sucked into the intake then…?

I have another couple of questions!

1. The hose that goes from intake elbow boot, to the Aux Air Valve, mine has a another small hose that comes off that - what do i do with it??

2. Do I really need the AAV?

3. The vacuum hose that fits into the brake servo - where does that go to?

1. the small hose connects to the wur

2. aav will make cold starting easier, its better to use the isv from the 16v engine if you want it to idle properly. although i have seen them with nothing but not sure how well they start or idle

3. the large hose on the servo goes to the back of upper inlet manifold smaller hoses go to the ecu and overrun cutoff valve on 16v metering head

speedo cable use std mk1 golf 1.5-1.8, route it neatly along the bulkhead. i recoomend you put in some heat shielding to protect the wires/cables directly behind the engine, i used a mk2 16v one i found it wedged back there quite nicely!

thanks

i'm making this conversion up from a bucket of parts, so its a bit patchy. The hose I have that goes from the airbox to the block, has a small hose coming off it right on the bend - ive plugged that onto the 5 injector, that okay?

And the small hose that runs off the intake elbow ive connected the lower intake manifold - ok?

The thing is i cant see where the WUR vaccum is obtained now.

I'll try and get some pics up asap.

on the 47mm manifolds thats where its supposed to go aye, on the 50mm it goes on a pipe between inlet 1 and 2. if you have a 50mm inlet and a 47mm isv block then you have 2 hoses, so one will need capping off

on the hose to the isv/aav there should be an s shaped hose, that needs to go to the wur.

Nah its 9a manifold and block (47mm?)

So just cap off the oil breather tee with a nut or something

yeah cap off anything you dont use, the main thing is the wur gets vacuum from the isv/aav pipe.

the nipple on inlet/5th inj block is for the air shrouded injection system, which doesnt make much difference if any i found on mine. technically it should get vacuum from the breather pipe though so if you do have a pipe for it one then by all means pop it on :)

Just revising this, where does the hose go in the bottom right of this picture?

think it goes to the over run (grey plastic) valve

originally it woudl have been for the breather, on yours if you have the over-run you could use it for that, it'll only work if you have the full 16v loom with ISV control unit.

In my mk1 16v I used a pre-90 MK2 16v airbox so it had all the connections where I needed them, just cut the bottom half down so it fitted. you would need a 90spec inlet boot on top of the airbox though as pre-980 is way too tall. on mine I managed to streeeeetch the mk1 8v hose over but it was tight!

just in case its not clear, no matter what airbox you go for mk1 or mk2 you need the mk2 16v metering head and air flap assembly they're different to the 8v ones
