Why do you own a Mk1 Golf?

Spot on !
Flash bugger that he is !!  Mind you, I love scorching a chav in it, they don't expect the big barge to lift her skirts in such a fashion.  Being the poor one, I only ever borrow it with the Fuel card in the glove box !!

Mind you, it doesn't do anything that my Cabby can't.  Well, apart from 155 …

…metres per gallon?!
I did a quick search online to guess the car right by the way!
Very flash indeed.   I don't think I'd ever feel at ease in one of those…I'm far too common!

The other halfs' toy car is a far more serious "toy"  Big.  Green.  V8.  Turbo.  Convertible.  Any guesses ?

Who cares  , its not a mk1.

Mk1's have soul, love driving them, I have more fun in a mk1 than in any other car really. And also knowing that im driving a car which displays my pastime and hard work. Oh and the looks from other people, and the local rude boys!

Sorry, I wandered !  But I love my Cabby, had one years ago as a Company Car, and now have Shabby Cabby, which is in the process of being done up.  Put on new suspension, new discs & pads, got a Corrado rear disc conversion in a box, a Mk2 16v servo & MC ( still in box ) the new hood is on, just got to collect her.  In January I'm having all the paint issues ( scratces, stone chips ) done, and then it'll be right.  Apart from the engine …. but I will be addressing that come October '09 !

Who knows how to fix a dropped door though ?

There was the same question under "bodywork" I beleive involving spacers and/or new door pins….

Back on topic though…. who else would like to tell us why they own a mk1?

I love my Mk1 because;

Its not what everyone else drives e.g chavvy caxo's and corsa's.
Its way cooler than the above cars and the like.
East to fix.
Its orange.
Its old.
It has a brown interiour with strange seat belts.
It handles like a go cart on its banded steels and coilovers.
Everyone looks where ever I go.

Above all, I love the Dub scene. Its very welcoming unlike the clicky Ford fans…..

The list is never ending. I just love them  :D

I was'nt really into VeeDubs, as we call them here in S.A. Looking for my first car, came across this lovely yellow gal just sitting there.Thought to myself,"Not too shabby hay!"Had to "out-bid" this other yougster for it! Engine looked "sound enough" So i bought "her". First time i started the engine…this smile..no make that GRIN, from ear to ear was plastered on my head. The drive home proved to be overwelming,exciting,heart-pounding, nostalgic…but most of all….pleasing!
pulled into the garage and got a shock of my life..she had been abused. :-(
Electronics where gutted…heater was brutalised..not to mention all the other problems i only discovered on closer inspection?
The car dealer i purchased her from, informed me that the previous owner was a Egyptian guy who had to go back home urgently due to the uprising earlier this yr.(Feb-March 2011) By this time i had fallen madlly deeply in love with "her". (by the way..if i ever get my HANDS on him…gonna kick him in the nads for abusing HER!!!!!) SHE has got plently of milage under the hood, but runs like a dream.I don't have much $$$ but every penny i can spare, i spend on my LADY.Gave her a wash 'n wax this weekend past. She looks a gooooood couple of km younger.New spark-plugs,new petrol filter, new oil filter, new air-filter and brake pads. Replaced the indicator arm, aswell. My wife n kids love her.My youngest son's face lights up when he sees Her..and says in his 2yr old voice.."there's SHEEEE!"He can pick Her out of all the cars in the local mall carPark and runs to HER and holds HER.
She has just done 121km since i own her.The girls all turn their heads when i drive and smile.heee hee, something my wife does'nt like. There are plenty of spare parts available out here.
"why am i a VeeDub head..cause It's in my BLOOD..not only mine..my wifes..sons…and every face i see staring @ HER"

One of my mates had a 1500 gls T reg many many years ago, me and my mates were just coming to the age of driving and he used to throw this green thing round everywhere, I thought I have got to have one of these. Couldnt afford a 1500 on my measly wages from my job so i bought a R reg 1100 in green (cant remember the correct colour code). thats when it started and I have never owned another marque, got the missus a metro once, we had it 2 weeks didnt even send the v5 off as i was trying to find a vw and managed to so sold the metro straight away. I do have another major reason for never wanting to leave the VW fold, I had a BIG accident in a 1500 glx Yreg, it turned over and the only injury I sustained was a slight bump on my head where the sunroof smashed and i hit it when I released my seatbelt. I now own an original R32 as well, so I have the best 2 VW's that volkswagen produced in my opinion. both make me grin for very different reasons.

mk1 gti mars red /deep blue pearl r32

Im not sure how I got here tbh.  I can't define a specific moment that made me go I want one of those.

I don't know why I love them, I don't know why they excite me and I don't know why I have one but I just know that I will probibly always have one.

For me it started with loving split screen campers from a young age, had serval cars then got band for d&d after 18 months got my licence back and need a car after a quick look through the free ads I found a mk2 golf driver, which I kept for 3 years and loved driving it. Once my insurance was cheaper I got a mk2 gti. Worked on that doing a engine rebuild once mot'd and taxed sold the driver. Liking the fact that I fixed one car decieded I want a project and since I loved the golf the obvious choice was a mk1 gti, after a engine change and lot of work on the fuel system on got her on the road, she's still got a lot of work to do! But she drives and feels better than anything I've driven, RAW! ALIVE!

That grin that everyone's been saying about, I get that everytime!
