Coming back to the origial question;

You'll have no issue at all if you remove your front bumper as long as you fit indicators somewhere on the front of the car - mini ones are ideal

As regards wheels out past the arches, from a legal stand point it's the same as an unsecured battery.  Bizzarely your car WILL pass an MOT but it will be illegal for you to use it on the public roads.  How about Group 4 style arches (as on the green oetinger Mk1 rally car in the wolfsburg muesum)

Are these like the Berg Cup Arches?
Big arches means he couldnt have wheels poking out of them then, which would defeat the object!  :wink:

That's the ones, they'd let him have the width of wheels he's after - although he'd probably run wheel bearings much more regularly than on standard width wheels.

They are, as far as I can tell, Group 4 style arches.  Either that or Berg cup arches.  I've seen Group 4 arches on Mini's, Fiats, Escorts, etc…

There is a Mk1 Golf sitting in the VW Museum in Wolfsburg with these arches on.  It's a green one and it's an Oetinger conversion.  I think it did the rally of South america or something?

I've also seen these arches on a Mk1 Polo and it makes them look VERY WIDE!  I agree, they would suit a tip top better, but that black cabriolet was the best photo of a Mk1 with these arches that google images came up with - plus it's got the front bumper off so I thought it would demonstrate the look I think he's going for pretty well.

No idea how you'd go about finding a set of these arches, if it came down to it, a competent GRP fabricator could probably create a mold using Mk1 GTI standard arch trims grafted to modified Mini (Classic) Sportpack arches.

If someone wants to get some moulds made up, I'd be interested in a set of arches for my MK1!!
