Post

wasn't sure as to what was fitted my Rivage from factory, so just been through some press release photos of the Sportline and Rivage.
The one posted is the sportline but from the other pics the one in the Rivage is the same..

Can anyone Identify or know of one knocking about?

Cheers

Yeah looks like the factory fit and the top pic looks like a beta which was the lower spec.Higher spec was the gamma.
See ebay link for similar. Pretty sure I've got a gamma in the shed somewhere which was from a T25 Bluestar but don't think it works.

These units are made by Blaupunkt and were fitted from early to mid 90's before most VW's changed over to the Sony cassette players. The one pictured in the brochure is a Beta, but like Spud said the Gamma is the higher spec unit, 4 x speaker outputs etc.

I've got a slightly later Alpha for sale on the forum (different fitting/release mechanism) these have 2 x speaker outputs.

I'm waiting for a Gamma unit to be delivered and will post up a few pics when it arrives (that's why I'm clearing out a few others from the hoard!)

Here's a pic of the range to whet your appetite! Check out the CD player!

The Gamma CD players come up on ebay.de now and again but fetch strong money and the commands on the unit are of course in german. The later style Gamma cassette units have CD changer hook ups though so they're just as good really.

Cheers Guy's,

Hmm IIRC someone mentioned a "windsor" named radio for the Rivage too?

A 'Windsor' will be a Blaupunkt head unit too, but it's not VW specific like those above so most likely a dealer fit. Blaupunkt's main 'after market' stereos all have city names.

There's quite a lot of Blaupunkt units similar to the 'Windsor' that are period correct and look OEM in the dash, here's a Blaupunkt 'Windsor'.

I've currently got a Munchen CD player in mine but I'm going to try out the Gamma with a CD changer.

I think I've also got a very similar cassette player to the Windsor in the garage, I think it's a Montreal - will have to check!

Seems odd really showing the Beta fitted then as all the cabbies had 2 front and 2 rear speakers anyway.

So surely the Beta could of only powered the fronts and not the rears, so would of thought the Gamma made sense to factory fit.

Or have I missed something?

Also seen the box of tricks to connect the CD part to Ipod via cables at the back, how does this work?

It is odd with the brochure, the pics slightly out of focus but it looks like a Beta.

To add to the confusion here's a pic of the Sportline from a brochure and it's fitted with a Gamma! I don't quite trust the brochure pics though, I guess they were used to market the cars pre-launch and the spec might not be 100% decided etc. The pic below has no electric hood switch or leccy window blanks in the centre console which isn't right.

Regarding the ipod/Cd connection, it's just connected through an aux port. Older Blaupunkts had the ports for additional gadgetry such as radio station presetters, just turns out they're a simple input and so can work an ipod.   :)

It is a Beta. if you look at the button configuration on the other pic of yours it shows different.

How confusing is that?

Is the box of tricks easy to make yourself?
I don't fancy paying them prices…

May have to look out for a Gamma myself then.
Problem is though I am bluetooth through the iphone to my sony unit so would need a work around thta issue. Don't want nicking for not being hands free..

In the Auto Museum, Diesel Strasse, Wolfsburg there was a Rivage. I took a picture of the radio in that and will have it somewhere.
Do you want me to dig it out? It may be a little blurred.

Nice one Dano, that'd be cool.

Chortle, the early type blaupunkt ipod connecters are easy to make, see Jellybellys how to in the how to section!. The later blaupunkts like the gamma/beta had an iso type plug for the aux, I bet you could make one with a universal ISO plug but I've not seen it done.
