Hi mates, i went to VW and the parts salesmen misunderstood me , he taught i was looking for the new semi smoke for citi golf. I told him i was looking for the old shape and he said VW does not have stock. I am still looking for the lights. I shall keep every body  posted.

My heart sank a little, but nice one for trying buddy and keep us updated if you do find any! So does anyone know a good place to get some after market ones?

Good day mates, I received a call from Hella South Africa this morning and the chap informed me that they do not manufacture the old citi tail lights any longer. A parts Salesmen from Port Elizabeth VW told me we must try Hella Germany for the semi smoke lights.

I have just sent them the following message to Hella Sales Head Office………

Good morning,

I hope you can help me. I am a member of the MK1 VW Golf owners club and as a result of enquiries have been advised by VW South Africa to contact you regarding the possibility of obtaining some rear lights for the MK1 Golf.

I am interested in buying a number of sets of the lights which has a part number of 996945111 & 996945112.

There is also some numbers on the lights themselves which are E0053319R38. I unsure if this number would be of any assistance to you.

I believe the lights in question were the rear lights fitted as standard to the VW MK1 Golf available in South Africa and not available in Europe. VW South Africa no longer sell the lights off the shelf and have directed me to yourselves.

Are these lights available from you guys at Hella direct and if so what is the price. I have a number of members of the MK1 GOlf owners club UK who are interested in buying a set.

If you cannot help would you know of a company that might?

Unfortunatly smudger I have contacted hella UK with that E number. I was told there is no stock in europe an the parts have been deleted. Hope you have more luck from germany though. But it doesnt sound too promising. I have also contacted vw uk who have sent a link to sa vw dealers but it doesnt sound worth following that lead up give that zee has lucked out.

Cheers for heads up Matt. I am not hopeful but at least now it's been tried so other members can search on here and hopefully save them emailing Hella or VW SA.

I'll report back as and when I get a reply.

I'd love them, i currently have smoked lights and have bought a heckblende which is all red, so i thought i could get best of both world with these as I my colour theme is silver/black and didn't want all red lights as it would look odd!

Are they available at all anymore? After reading through here it seems not, does anybody know where i can get hold of some or reps?

we have lots on order from south Africa, we also found some in Europe for a while but this seems to have dried up
