Mk 1 wont start

Hi guys having trouble starting my 83 1500 gx mk1 been through all the checks it has fuel and a spark although a bit week ive changed everything exept the dissy any ideas.The car has a webber on it the history with the problem is the cars been great until a few weeks ago when i moved it to get to another car on starting it has a miss fire but this cleared quickly so thought nothing of it the went to move it again and the miss fire was back but wouldnt clear the when i came to move it again nothing it would turn over no probs but wouldnt fire unti i let go of the key and it would try to run on one cylinder.Now nothing at all just turns over like ive said replaced everything but i think it has a week spark .So guys what do you think

Sounds like an ignition fault - I'd go for the ignition switch itself as the likely culprit.

Sounds like a timing issue. The other possibility is its flooded, and the cylinders have washed with petrol and lost compression. Normally leaving it an hour or so clears this (so long as you don't flood it again, etc).

have you tried chasing the yellow ( usually ) wire from the starter motor in the middle of it theres usually a block connector prize it appart and clean the connections. i had issues with my mk1 where often it would start ok then as soon as the car was a bit hotter ( the cable runs in a hot area ) the car wouldnt fire over at the key ) ive found a lot of the golf problems are down to bad corrosion on electical terminals clean them up then try this fingers crossed it will at least help the car start then misfiring etc could be down to things like dirty spark plugs and dirty distributor /coil etc as well as dirt in the carb etc etc
