Is this of interest to anyone?? PICS UP.

An old 5 door with a small engine , sorry but no value to me.

So your saying your ABF MKI came from new with the ABF in it?? Care to think outside the box. I'm sure there are those that would keep it as a standard car but there is nothing to stop somebody from having a very tidy standard looking MKI that is really a wolf is sheeps clothes.

I'm in the same position, and I don't think its fair to have a go at someone because of it. A lot of the people on this site already own a Mk1 Golf, and a large proportion of those are GTIs. In addition, many people have >1 car, so they need another one like a hole in the head! Hence number of people who want to buy this kind of car generates the demand, which affects its value. Hence, GTIs are more expensive than low powered cars, which is reflected in the value.

Normally people genuinely seeking a Golf would look in the "Cars For Sale" area and this area has rules such as need to declare a price. I guess the moderators have already decided this is an exceptional case.

Your original post reads like you're a car dealer, or somehow connected with one - can you clarify what the situation is?

2DamSly has declared himself as a car dealer, well deduced from the initial post……from what I can work out it is Mazda/Coventry or Leamington Spa.

ABFMK1, With respect your opinion is valid but don't see what your point was in mentioning your lack of interest….  I bet you're secretly after this car and putting people off the scent…Sussed ya!

Anyway, a 1300 Mk1 is good on the tax and insurance front as a second or third car…..

my point was that with all the musnt let it be scrapped, get the club involved, have a lottery etc that it was only a lowly 5 door small engined car that was neither rare or that desirable to me. ok it was nice and sure other people were interested but not me.

I'd defo get a ticket or two for a tenner, especially if it saved the car. Well up for that.

Would you be happy for 40% or so of club funds being used on it though? Tickets valuing ?10 don't sell that well either, and you'd need to sell a lot of them to break even (thus reducing the odds and making them undesirable as sales go on), or would the members be happy for the club to take a (significant) loss, to save this particular kind of car? I guess its up to members to say if they think its a sensible use of club money though. A similar question came up once when someone wanted to sell their project and suggested the club buy it as a "club car".

It would be a risk for the club to buy it then try and get the money back I agree, as it would also depend on how much the guy would like for it ?1300 say is only 130 tickets at ?10, how many club members are there? What % of club members would then need to buy a ticket, could the raffle be planned for the yearly show with tickets sold and pushed then, or have the raffle in a few months, could we sell them at club stands at whatever shows the club attends.

Like I said i agree it would be a risk but all I'm saying is I'd support the club if they did decide to do it and defo buy 1 ticket if not 2.

Re Raffle

I made the suggestion….It was tongue in cheek….    I through it out there…   It has worked in other places and been used as a fundraising idea or by some people as a way of selling there own car…..yep, I've heard of it…..

I think ?10 was a figure that was informally thrown around…It is up to your club commitee to run with it….if anyone really WANTS to take it seriously…. :dontknow:

Back on topic….

We have a straight Mk1 Golf here and it needs home…Some like…some don't……A Marmite car…..a Bourbon Cream of the VW world.  For the right money it's a ride you would certainly look twice at in a car park or a meet…..This is a nice little opportunity for someone…..somewhere…some place…..and that someone may well be tucking into a Bourbon Cream biscuit…..as we speak….

I hate Bourbons myself, bytheway.  I'm off to watch my Betamax recording of The Rocky Horror Picture Show

I work for a dealer and at present we are getting alot of trash coming through the doors by way of this scrapage scheme.

This thread is now running round in circles , why not just post it in 'Cars For Sale' and see if it sells at the price you want ?

Sorry been away guys. I appreciate this is in the wrong section but its not really a for sale thread. I posted this on here more as a whats it worth and would anyone be interested. If I was selling it I'd have had it sold by now ;).

By the way has anyone who expressed interest been contacted by the owner yet???

Cheers Andy

The owner decided to keep it even after several people offered him cash for it.
