Is it worth ?10k ? Discuss...I know you want to

This is by far the best s1 GTi i've seen for sale. I'd want all the paper work though saying that all the extras were fitted new and by the vw. If I had the oppurtunity to buy it, but missed out i'd never forgive myself!!

I'm now mk1less, ahhhhhhh!

Well it's up for sale so you have the opportunity to buy it right now.

It's a nice motor, I'd rather stick ?10k into a Porsche, Lancia or Ferrari but it's your money!  I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Good choice of car, I'm surprised it found a home so quick at that price though.

Has it gone already then???? Not surprised really, it'll be years before another one like that comes up.

That comments seems to suggest that the car is therefore overprices, as surely if the price was right you'd have already bought it by now?

I think it's worth close to 10k.

If I wanted a low mileage s1 and had up to ?10k to spend what other choices would I have?? When was the last time anybody saw a car like this for sale?

Saw this car in the flesh 2-3 years ago at GTI Int. Very nice car, can honestly say it was one of the best turned out standard cars there that day, obviously didn't get much attention beacuse it wasn't covered in cheap plastic, nasty flip paint or bangin out dodgy dance music  . Had a good chat with the owner Roger who was a true enthusiast and raved about the car.

As mentioned the wheels e.t.c where specified as dealer fits, not  factory options (quite common at the time for GTIs to leave the showroom with BBS wheels). The additional lights and twin light grill are slighty different to latter factory ones - lights are more rounded. Would be interesting to know whether it has ever had resto work, seem to recall Roger saying it hadn't had a lot other than servicing. The plate on the front panel is not a sprayed over VIN plate - Vin is on strut tower on series 1.

Have to say though, no matter how good it is ?10,000 seems a lot for a mk1, think there would be quite a few other classics out there competing for my ten grand. Having said that there are a number of series ones that have had that sort of money sepnt on full blown restos - VW-one for instance and could be quite rare for a series one GTI if it has never been restored. May well be the seller is having a bit of a punt and will simply keep it if he doesn't get ten grand, he did seem very attached to it.

Cheers

still for sale on pistonheads at the moment.
still for 10k

Used cars for sale - PistonHeads UK

Suggests its not worth 10k then. Definitely worth something though. But there's definitely some kind of 'ceiling' on prices, unless there's something special about the car, eg it was owned by someone famous, or was the first ever GTI, etc.

The valuation chart on this site is a bit naff

Says a concours 1983 gti is worth same as a concours swallowtail. I think the swallowtail would be worth double the gti?

aye if it was a serious low mileage series 1 kept in a buble since 1980, id part with 10k of my money for it but this car isnt all that.

reason i opened this up is that MK1 OC gets a mention in his add, all be it an incorrect reference.

The asking price for this unique vehicle is ?10,000 which is based on the Mark 1 Golf Price Guide on the Mk 1 Owners' Club website. (This does not take into account the high German specification.)

I see it priced at ?5000 on the buyers guide, reccon this is worth slightly more than that however. Think the "Buyers Guide" is slight out of date however its still not 10k of my money

Part of the issue is that our price guide has defined 7 different conditions. Everyone else in the classic car world uses 3, or maybe 4 if you include spares/repairs cars. If we'd defined ours as 3, then the condition 1 car would be listed at ?5000 with an explanatory note saying a car with particularly low mileage or something else special, could be worth more. Then the owner wouldn't have misinterpreted it?
