Driver door needs a bit of a slam to shut properly?

Hi,
My drivers door needs a bit more force to close properly otherwise it opens partially which can get really annoying and I don't like having to slam it so much. Does it seem like a problem with the latch? or could it just do with being refurbed in some way? its only the driver door which i assume is down to over use

it could just need the door striker pin moving out slightly on the door pillar section, it just undoes with a 15mm spanner, undo it slightly and move it out a bit, tighten and try it, it may take a couple of goes

Agreed, the pin might not meet the latch perfectly. Does the door drop slightly when you open it? That could indicate worn door pins/hinges.

Is the door sitting straight? How are the panel gaps around it? Also, check whether the bottom or top corners of the door are catching and rubbing on the sill or top of the b-pillar when the door closes..

My mk1 tin top's the same and I've always put it down to solid build quality! Too much pressure inside the car as the door closes. Mind you, the passenger door's the same.. I put the window down a little and the door shuts with a precise thunk!

ahh yeah it does drop slightly come to think of it, how easy are the door pins to replace, i seem to remember someone struggling with them?

they are tight, i used a vice on my mk2. usually its only the lower pin that wants replacing. beware that the hinge halves you get these days are mk2 versions, so you use a mk2 bolt and need to ream out the hole on the mk1 bracket before they'll fit!

might not bother, having moved the door striker pin about a bit it seems to be better so might just leave it

The plastic sleeves are in tact on the pics that the latch grabs on to ?

Yeah they look aged but are still in tact

My previous car was so bad the lower corner of the door used to strike the sill as it closed. When I changed the pins I got help! It was years ago, I don't fancy doing it now if what rubjonny says is true!

Wow mines no where near as bad as that! Haha more of an annoyance really
